What am I missing about Subaru?

For some reason or another, Subarus have become popular lately and a lot of people are recommending their cars to others. They have good reliability and are good quality vehicles.

However, they don't look anything extraordinary. They have the 90s look, maybe I'm mistaken. Yes, once you drive a Subaru that is something else, but to a non-car (not me) person, what is so sexy about a Subaru?

I think they are excellent cars, but not that much sexy compared with some of the others.

My parents would vouch for their practicality, safety, and reliability.

Their Forester > relatives' RAV4s and CRVs 😀

Reliable, awd, most of the models don't look incredibly stylish but don't look crappy either, wrx can be had for about 25k...

You buy a Subaru (1)to get a snow car without having to buy an enormous truck (2)because no one will make fun of you for driving a station wagon, even though you are.

Only the best AWD vehicles that you can buy - they sell some of the fastest vehicles in their categories - Legacy, STi, and Forester outrun their competition easily 🙂

If I bought a legacy wagon, I could get an upper 20's MPG "family hauler" with AWD and a manual transmission, and in car form rather than SUV.

Looks good to me.

Live in NE and other cold/snowy regions. Here in the Boston area almost every other car is a Subaru.

The attraction? Reliable and AWD. That's all you need.

I just purchased an Impreza Sport Wagon. For $19k I got an automatic, 173hp AWD wagon. There is no other car on the market that can match that.

I am very interested in the Forrester. I originally wanted a luxury sports sedan, but now I'm looking at the Forrester. Awesome SUV.

Yes, that is true. Since being from the South, I don't see many Subarus around here. But you guys are definately right, Subarus are excellent, practical vehicles that are very solid.

I am liking them more and more.

Reliable, good performance, all wheel drive, drives well, and is very cool, partly due to the rally heritage. And priced so that a lot of people can afford them. Just makes sense, I guess.

Maybe you are not looking at the right ones. Check out the Legacy GT (new) and the STi. I guess the new STi will take a while to get used to if you do get used to it.
It is also more about performance, than other characteristics.
Plus it is an excellent vehicle for all weather and safety.

They are all really ugly cars, but they are also reliable and inexpensive. Even with their performance i would never buy one.

Chick magnet it isn't, my Subaru Forrester, it has an oddball look, but it's great in the snow/mud, decent fuel economy (22-26MPG), plenty of cargo room for my fishing/hunting gears.
