🙁 im in Canada -- circuit city does not exist...

does some one wanna do me a favour?

hint hint: get it for me and i send them money to ship it to me 😀😀

let me know if any of you are feeling nice today! i'll even ship extra, and give you 3 heat comments (sure, ill make them up!)

well no im not gona get that anyway...

1. AGP -- yes, now i want PCIe lol
2. its 128MB
3. its in the US 🙁

thanks a lot though -- that is an amazing deal!

Sorry, forgot you were in Canada.

Having only 128MB in this price range is NOT a really big issue. A friend of mine who plays a lot of PC games actually thinks the only reason my videocard is faster than his is because it has 256MB. (He also thinks my A64 is the same speed as his P4 since they're both 2.4GHz..LOL). The thing holding back video is largely shading power (i.e. how many pixel pipes, and what's the clock speed). Yes, newer games will need 256MB at 1280*1024, but they'll need more pixel-shading power even more than that. You said you need something cheap to last the next six months - if you can find a 6600GT or 6800 around for about CAN120, go for it. (Or used for a little less). Like I said, 9800 pros should still be really abundant used.

yes, i know, however i will not have an ATI in my system! im sorry to all the ATI users, but im very bias to nVidia...

anyhoo...

this video card, unfortunately, will be a permanent vcard (for a while at least) which i why i need it to be max 180 CAD for a 6800GS, or something with similar clocks and unlockable to 16 pipes. the GSs are supposed to unlock REALLY easily, and most of them are actually able to!

i doubt you find a 6800GS for that low of a price ($180 CAD=$155 USD).....this card is within your price range, and members on this forum have been successful in unlocking it (16/6vp) 6800XT

hmmm...

would there happen to be a more refined version? say 256MB, or OC, or both for example?

im deciding whether to go with the 6800GS, or wait a little and go with the 7800GS (unless i can trade a lot of stuff for it...trading for the 68gs would be nice too 😀)

if there is an "upgraded" version of that card, i might get it...

thanks.

$115 shipped is a good deal on a 6800NU in $Cdn right now. Is it new, used? If it's refurb or used, I'd say it's far less likely to unlock pipes. Even if not, it's still a fine deal IMO.

If you decide not to take it, send me pm with details.

that is the dumbest think I have read all year.

I'm actually selling my xfx 6800nu, I have it on ebay now, let me know if your interested. It's extra pipes are working, but can't leave them on cuz it heats up too much. If you pair this with a zalman, you can easily have the extra pipes opened, while giving it a good oc as well.

I'll give it for around $135.

Oh yeah it's AGP...

Let me know.

Ok, now you're all over the place with your ideas. It seems that we've done a fine job of shifting your focus. It sounds like to me you really have two options:

1) Pick up 6600GT or a 6800nu, used if possible. Check Ebay, most people in the US will ship to Canada.
2) Save up for an entire system upgrade. Personally, I would not spend $300 on a 7800GS just to stick with AGP and an Athlon XP 2000+. You would be better saving up $500 for a PCI-E motherboard, socket 939 cpu, and a 7800GT.

turns out they have 8 pipelines, and are people actually unlocking 2 quads on this sucker?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150130

there is the link to the one im looking at and will most likely buy, especially if it can unlock 2 quads, let alone one. it needs at least one -- i dont wanna go with 2 quads only...!

That's a PCI-E card.

i know...

read up a little bit i changed my focus on that too...

im so messed up 🙁

im getting a PCIe/AGP mobo, which is why the slot doesn't concern me too too much. the XT though i would like to be PCIe only because of the lack of a quad and a little speed off the core clock.

PCIe is obviously better so i would want that, but AGP doesnt realy matter to me anymore, as long as i have a card that will last for the next (about) 2 years solid.

about the whole idea of saving up, that seems to be a good idea. i will be buying a S939 3200+ for $110 CAD -- STEAL!!! also, im getting the ECS K8T890-A temporarily, and then maybe the ASRock (if i go AGP).

we'll see, as its quite complicated lol.

If you're going to save up, don't bother with the AGP/PCI-E mobo. Get a straight PCI-E motherboard. The only reason you'd want both slots to is if you already have a fast AGP card (which you don't), but you want to upgrade cpu.

If you really want to switch to PCI-E, I would suggest you check this out:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/...m-details.asp?EdpNo=1644233&CatId=2023

$465.00 CAD for a 7800GT and socket 939 SLI motherboard + $110 CAD for S939 3200+

= $575 CAD total. ($498 US, to put it into perspective for the rest of us)

How many have successfully unlocked a 6800 and have it run w/o artifacts? From what I read, people usually leave the stock 12 pipes locked and unlock the other pipes. That is what I have done with this $85 Circuit City 6800 (plus OC 355/798)😀

I bought my PNY 6800NU last summer. All the pipes and vertex unlock. I do not OC it though. I was getting like 3952 on 3dMark05 with my specs. My buddy just picked up a 6800GS and it is much faster than mine. And his is at stock.

oh TRUST me ive looked at this MANY times and wanted to buy it badly, but i dont think im gona be able to go as high as a 7800GT yet....the highest 7 series i'd go now is prob the GS, hense the PCIe/AGP mobo.

thats SUCH an amazing como though, and so mouthwatering.

im gona have to see and calculate if, in any way, its possible that i will have that much money to upgrade to that dynamic duo soon. i want this upgrade close to the end of the month, and i will NOT be able to get THOSE 2 by then...

one other question...is it worth going with a 6800NU 128MB over a 6800XT 256MB because of the 4 extra pipes? or is RAM more valuable?

look any good? worth waiting for? i think it would be...apparently its only gona be $200 USD or cheaper for the GT (im pretty sure), so im sure ill be able to find it for 180 CAD easier then the 6800GS! the 7600GS = 8 pipes and lower clocks, while the FT = 12 pipes and much better clocks -- choice is obvious.

what u think? so far only PCIe, which i dont mind.
