I agree with Michael Cera - I thought he was perfect for his role in Superbad. Then I saw him in Juno and thought, "Wow, he played the exact same character." Then I saw him in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, a movie I facepalmed my way through where he - surprise, surprise - played the same bloody character. Only problem being Juno and Superbad were about 9000 times more enjoyable than Nick and Norah.
Then I saw the first three seasons of Arrested Development (one of the best things evar!) and realized that's where he started and he played that character for three years. And that's when I realized it's true what they say about (most) TV actors - one hit show and you are typecast for life.
I wouldn't go as far to say I hate Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller but I only watch their movies if they were exceptionally well received by critics and/or fans. (Click, Funny People, Tropic Thunder, Zoolander etc.) And yes, I've felt the same way about Jim Carrey since he made Bruce Almighty.
Not a fan of Orlando Bloom either. I like some of his movies but he has little-to-nothing to do with the enjoyability. Man lacks presence. Some actors (like J.K. Simmons) make their presence felt even with 5 minutes of screen time in a large ensemble cast or a brief cameo; Bloom leaves no impression even when he's on the screen for 90% of the runtime.
Some that I don't agree with:
Tom Cruise is a good actor. And he works in a lot of different genres: Jerry Maguire (romance-drama-comedy), Vanilla Sky (drama-thriller), Tropic Thunder (comedy), Magnolia (serious film is serious), Minority Report (sci-fi action) etc.
Jack Black definitely lacks range but the role that he does play - obnoxious, loud, crass but likable guy - is usually well executed. Sure, I can see how some might find him irritating but he's nowhere close to Pauly Shore, Will Ferrel or some other obnoxious (supposed) funny men.
And what's with the hate on Dakota Fanning? Can't really say I've seen some of her recent work but she was good in every movie she made as a little girl. Had pretty much the whole world convinced she would win half-a-dozen or so Oscars by the time
she grew up and took on more grown-up roles.
Seth Rogen I freaking love. I will watch any movie of his.
I actively avoid movies with teen popstars-turned-actors and rappers-turned-actors (although I always love the occasional Snoop Dogg cameo).
