What about the new Ipod Nano?

Just to be clear on the prices, Apple's Nano models, adjusted for the education discount (which everyone can use) and tax...

2GB Nano: $191
4GB Nano: $244

Meanwhile, you can get a generic 5GB mp3 player from NewEgg for $150, and a 5GB Zen Micro is $190.

Personally, I think Apple is all flash (no pun intended) and little substance. The only practical thing going for them right now is the iTunes connection. If you're a heavy iTunes user, I can certainly understand getting an iPod. Otherwise there's really not much point.

If we were talkin' about their PCs I'd agree w/ you whole heartedly but having had other mp3 players (iRiver and Dell Juk) before getting the Mini it's obvious that Apple has the edge in ALL areas. They look better, they feel better, they work better.. pretty much blow away the competition in my opinion.

Ummm, running with a hard drive based MP3 player ain't the best idea. You run with your 5GB Zen Micro and I'll run with my iPod Nano and we'll see who's player lasts the longest.😉

Your school apparently doesn't have such a good educational discount (it will vary by school/university). University of Texas at Dallas is $179/$229

Neat. Before anyone makes comments on space, remember that $/GB is not a perfect measurement for DAPs. A small, light flash player like this could be just the thing for someone who wants a gym player but wants more than 1 or 2 gigs. $249 is not that much for a 4GB flash player.

I'm betting neither, barring a freak accident or dud drive on either player. The proprietary Li-Ion batteries inside both players will be dead before three years are over, which is less time than I'd give a decent HDD. Remember, too, that once they stop making the battery, the clock starts ticking.. Li-Ion batteries kill themselves just sitting on a shelf.

In short: flash players are neat, but the longevity thing means nothing to me unless the players use AAs or AAAs, or unless you like to shake your player to see if candy comes out.

just out of curiosity, would the ipod nano and ipod shuffle work as a flash drive even if the Li-Ion battery died...it just won't be able to play songs but it should work as a flash drive, am i right?

well...i've never wanted an mp3 player until i saw this thing...now i'm thinking of joining the bandwagon...but i might get a canon rebel xt before i jump on the mp3 wagon in the hopes that I'll get over the mp3 player and continue my desire not to join the ipod craze

Looks good. I'll probably be picking one up soon. 4GB flash drive for 250 dollars is pretty hard to beat.

GO SAMSUNG!

I'd rather have a Creative Zen Micro. IPOD has nice features. But they sure aren't worth 100-200 price premium.
There are a few problems with this statement.
1. The Zen Micro looks extremely ghetto compared to the iPod Nano
2. The Zen has no color screen
3. The Nano is WAY smaller
4. The Nano is using a flash drive instead of a hard drive
5. The Nano is only ~$70 more than the Zen
6. And last but not least, the Zen Micro looks ghetto 😛

lol🙂
yup, the micro is almost exactly 3 times larger!!

I thought it was supposed to look like THIS?!?

that would be the owrst interface ever. no you need to physically cover the screen to do something onscreen?

anyway, the ipod nano is the only ipod i'd ever considerbuying, hell, i might get 1 to replace my aging Rio Karma(best Mp3 player to date!).

Yeah, I thought this was a joke. Wow. Incredible.

As far as stuff getting smaller...I bought a V710 phone, which is a monster. No more small buttons for me! muahahhaha! 😀

Looks like Apple will hit it big again, and now in black too.

Unfortuantely now I just need to sell my Shuffle and and my Mini that is less than 2 month old so I can buy one.

what are the specs on ur mini? i might be interested.

I don't really care about size (physical), weight, or durability as much. I <3 my 30GB Zen Xtra for $180. So much space, and so little money 😀

yea, if your selling it, how much? for the shuffle and/or for the mini

so what happens with the free ipod mini rebate for students??

it'd be sweet if we can use the $179 off one of these bad boys

LOL. It doesn't look impressive? Show me a comparable product. And when I say comparable I'm talking in ALL areas: size, weight, battery life, color screen, et al.

Some people don't have taste.

Hey does anyone know where the headphone jack is on the thing? Don't tell me it's on the bottom...
