I thought it was better than the BS attack ads that Apple deploys. You guys are over analyzing this, some of you almost seem insulted.

There is an even worse commercial out where they have "real" people using a supposed brand new secret operating system they are going to release. They show the people talking about how great it is and then they reveal to them it was Windows Vista all along. They are admitting that vista has such a bad rep people hate it before they even try it.

why is that bad? A company admitting that for no real reason of their own fault, their product was getting a bad rep... I'm glad Microsoft did that... shows that people are not educated about Vista and they are admitting partial fault. However, the original fault lied with developers not making (proper)drivers initially. I love Vista. I find it more stable, and personally, better, than XP. Other than stability improvements through updated kernel, and some new features, it's just a dressed up 2000/XP. Get a different theme and customize it to be like 2000/XP if you want. It's a more logical step than XP was from 2000.
I look forward to Windows 7 though, as Vista was more a testbed, and 7 will get all the new features that had been promised for Vista.

I'm not sure marketing about how you fail at marketing is a sound strategy.

Exactly. After a 10 minute demo/sales pitch they made some people think Mojave (Vista) sounded good. Well duh! That's what a sale pitch is suppose to do. Maybe if they would have advertised their sales pitch instead of how they tricked people they could have come up with a half decent ad for a change.

Yeah, the mac ads are funny, even though macs seem to be nothing but PC's with OSX these days.
I can't think of anything less funny than the Apple ads. Except maybe Will Ferrel, but it's close.

Some of the apple ads have their moments. The initial ones totally backfired for me. The PC was suppose to be a dumbass and I was suppose to identify with the mac. In the end, the PC came off as dorky but friendly, whereas the mac once again came of as an elitist art snob. They toned him down to a more friendly character later on and had the PC just stumbling and acting jealous so it started to work a little better. That doesn't take away from the fact many of the commercials are based on half truths...but at least when its over I'm thinking something other then "Man, the mac is a fucking dick."

I also thought that the problem with macs, they bill themselves as so easy to use. But the community seems to act like a bunch of elitist fucks that want to shit on you because you aren't part of their exclusive club. A more "we're here and we can help!" approach would be more useful if they actually want to increase market share and not just sit around being bitter all day. 😛

This ad for Microsoft is good in that it seems to be accurate regarding Microsoft's current business strategy: Flailing incoherently, leaving the user wonder WTF is going on and WTF was the point of all this?

Say what you want about Windows, and there is plenty to complain about, but I would never prefer a Mac. I use Macs in our school lab sometimes and I can't stand their operating system

I don't think it's that bad, it feels like an extract out of a Seinfeld episode, it's basically a commercial about "nothing", like a taste for things to come, that's why it says "future, delicious" at the end, at the very least it can make you laugh a bit and who knows, maybe they'll tie it in with a bunch of other commercials and they'll be great.

Don't take it so seriously, some of you guys are reacting like that episode insulted your mother.

Mojave is more a comment on the complete stupidity and ignorance of the buying public. I've encountered people like those in the ad that believe Vista to be a bad OS without ever using it.

The ad wasn't Terrible.. It was kinda too long.. Not funny.. And I didn't get the message.. but since it's gates, i know he's peddling windows.

Agreed, it was bad.

Instead, they should have played up the fact that, in the pc vs mac ads, the PC guy is wearing a suit and looks like he's at least employed, whereas the mac guy looks ~32 years old and dresses like he still lives in his parents' basement.

well, it's generally a bad idea to outright insult your potential income base in your advertising...

that said, the current ad is absolutely pathetic.

this ad was pretty stupid, just as bad as the apple ads have been.

I don't get it, apple had great iphone ads, but failed at their Mac vs PC ads IMO.

The thing that Mac and Microsoft aren't getting is you need to do more to show people why it is a good idea to buy that brand. All apple does is try to make fun of MS, they don't show 1 second of a Mac, don't show any reason for people to change.

MS needs to do this also, show what you can do on Windows.

Say what you want about Macs, but remember that MS Windows was just a pirated version of Mac Windows. Bill's father (a lawyer, and later Pres of the Bar) had set Bill up with the most cut-throat team of contract and IP lawyers that had ever existed on the technology frontier, and they raped and pillaged their way through Apple and IBM, and dozens of other IP developers in the late 1970s and 1980s.

But Windoze is the standard (aka monolopy) for PC gaming, so we continue to live with it.

ROFL. Dude here's a hint: Anyone that uses M$ or Windoze is going to be viewed as a tard regardless of whatever point you are making. Don't act 12.

Also Windows in it's current form basically came about when MS was developing OS/2 for IBM and decided they could do one better. As for the concept of a windowed gui that came from Xerox, not Apple or MS. Xerox PARC also was instrumental in the mouse and ethernet.

Don't come in here spouting your kiddie theories and expect the folks here to buy it. You'll have to do better than that.

Run along now.

'WinDoze' term is over 18 years old. Older than your maturity level.

Apple stole the concept of a windowed gui that came from Xerox, but MS stole the source code from Apple.

So they are equally guilty and Xerox got ripped off, not Apple. What's your point?

Different levels of quilt, concept rip-off verses source pirating. And Xerox 'invited' Apple to rip them off.

On a side note, I still have some of the MS documents that show that MS-DOS was pirated from CPM.
