This is the main reason why I think it's generally a bad idea to plant large trees within falling distance of any structure. 99.9999% all trees will fall eventually (some will be bought down by fire, insects, or else alien abduction), and there's a fairly good chance that a decent portion of the tree's choice of 360° in which to fall will happen to be on some valuable portion of your property - and hopefully not on any particularly valuable portion of your family or person.
Yes I understand that the shade and aesthetics are nice and all, but that whole tree-crushing-the-house thing just isn't especially appealing.
