Foul. Unfortunately I wonder - is the only difference between people who are savage like this and us the fact that we are not as desperate and our environment and lifestyles are just much better? Crime is higher with low incomes for instance and desperate times call for desperate measures. Bah, i'm just rambling :)

Skoorb,

The dayaks were always like this according to my former in-laws. It was only the Indonesian armed forces that made them behave differently. Now the army appears to look the other way and they take advantage of it.

Closed-mindedness at its worst. You guys do realize that not being able to get a pizza delivered in 15 minutes or less is about your greatest worry. There is a huge world out there beyond your block. Just because their culture differs from ours, that does not make them lesser people. Tribal war is a part of their culture, who am I to try to change them to be like us, because as you all have shown we are the only ones who are right </sarcasm>.

You wouldn't say that if your families were the ones being killed. Killing people is never right, tribal war or what not! Indonesia or US!

KameLeon, how do you think the families of the North Vietnamese felt when the Americans came and bombed the piss out of their country and killed 10's of thousands of their people?

vi: exactly, in our culture it is not right to kill another human for the sake of the "tribe" but I will not judge others cultural actions using the laws and principles of my culture. It just doesnt work that way.

Aren't we supposed to be living in civilized times though? Of course each country or region has their own ways and customs but I would have to believe that it is universally considered wrong to kill. Even the little girl at the end of the article felt bad to see her friend decapitated.

So you're saying that because they're killing people in tribal wars and it's part of their culture, It makes it right?
I was just saying that killing this way can never be justified!

Exactly my point! Unless you think different? or don't value human life?

Doggie: yet the US government has no problem carpet bombing Iraq. Go figure, funny how you definition of civilized only extends to other peoples conflicts. Also funny how the news twists another countries war into something horrible, but denies that reports of mass death in Baghdad are true.

DISCLAIMER: I personally believe that the US bombing Iraq is not a problem. Just trying to show the thinking patterns of the uninformed.

I was just speaking within the context of this issue! What does the US government bombing Vietnam or Iraq have to do with this? You can always form different opinions by relating this with other matters!

Kam: is your name Doggie? But to address your point, I dont know if I can even agree that it is wrong to kill. I am not the supreme being to make these decisions. I think it depends on the circumstance.

Wow, that sure got a reaction.

The point that warcleric and I are trying to make is that many here in the US don't have any problems with the US Military killing people of other cultures/nations as long as it is *our* morals or interests that are being upheld.

Oh! I'm sorry I addressed you! Really really sorry because your comments were meant for Doggie and not me! Will never happen again, Sir. I didn't know I needed special permission to address someone on the board. Where are my manners? :D

JoeBad: even Vietnam vets dont feel right for some of the things we did during the conflict. You need to chill out. It is hard for anyone who isnt/wasnt there to judge anything...and even people who are/were there have differing opinions. I dont think I can sit back here in my leather office chair and say "Damn those sick bastards!" because I dont know them, or their situation. There are alot of justifications for killing, I just dont know enough about these situations to know whether they were justified or not. In fact even if I did know EVERYTHING about the situation, their culture is going to change what would and would not justify it, so I still wouldnt know.

Kam: you said that you were addressing the issue at hand. Great, wonderful, I wasnt talking to you, so address whatever you want to address.
