What 3rd party ROM do you use on your Droid?

Looking for suggestions.

I ran Peter Alfonso's builds for a while, and just yesterday tried the MIUI ROM which I like quite a bit. But in perusing their forums, others suggested that the MIUI is bloated (which it does tend to lag from time to time) and they were quite happy with the Cynogen CM7 ROM.

So I ask you, ATOT, which non-stock ROM do you prefer?

I am presently running latest release of MIUI on Droid 1, but considering trying the Cynogen ROM.

Currently using MIUI 1.7.1 for the Evo w/ reDARKend 2.4 theme.

Have used CM7, Synergy, and MikG 2.15. I haven't noticed any significant difference in either performance or battery life between them... but they're all better than stock because they don't have any Sprint bloatware.

I think he's asking specifically for the Droid 1, which is a different beast than a lot of the stuff out there right now. Doesn't always cooperate with GB roms.

I'm using Droid Concepts with a Chevyno1 1.1 ULV kernel.

I prefer Froyo roms, because everything works. I had way too many problems with gingerbread roms.

Using CM7.1 with a Chevy 1GHZ Kernal but not really impressed. Seems pretty sluggish but I am used to a faster(EVO) phone. Would one of the Froyo ROMs be a better pick?

The the Droid Concepts rom I mentioned is very fast. Froyo based and still actively developed unlike most of the Froyo D1 roms.

Are we talking about the Droid 1, any Verizon Droid branded phone, or any Android phone on any carrier? They aren't the same thing. 😛

Damn you Verizon, you've confused millions of drones with your poor naming! 😛

CM7 but now back to CM6.1.2. Someone started porting CM7 features back to CM6 on the Milestone thread and now I'm back.

Froyo is 10x faster than GB on the old Droid/Milestone platform. 256mb is too little memory. The problem with GB is simply memory. While your device can boot ok, I bet after a day it will be unusable. I had so many issues taking my phone on vacation and trying to do navigation. Google maps would stall/lag/lockup a LOT. It was always fine after boot, so I had to remember to reboot everyday.

CM6 was snappy as hell though. Glad I'm back. I applied the GB theme though 🙂

Not having any trouble with CM7 RC 1.1 on my Incredible. I re-boot it once a week and that's about it. I have zero issues with it, where I had trouble with MMS pix on CM 6.1.....

Any one of them. Just let us know what device and what ROM you're using, and what you think of it.

In my case, I did end up loading the CM7.1RC ROM and like it a fair amount.

I have found, at least from my experience tinkering with Afonso's ROMs, that my phone simply does not seem to like the LV (low voltage) kernels. I get more lockups and things of that nature than I do with standard kernels. Tried again this morning, and it locked up after a game of field runners. Switched over to Alfonso's 0.3 SV 1.0GHz kernel, and thus far seem to be in good shape. Played the same game and had no issues.

I tried Droid Concepts but could get it to install GAPPS for nothing. Instead of going Back to 7.1 I went with the last 7.0X release and it's much better than before.

Google apps wouldn't install as an update.zip? What recovery are you using? I did it with RaidZero on 3 phones.

OMFGB Nightlies on the Thunderbolt. Its fast, mostly stable, AOSP, and has long battery life. Still has some roughness though, 4G doesn't always always work, GPS is MIA.

Well, after using the CM7 build for a day or so, I am about ready to call it quits. One lock up which I though would be remedied by going to a SV kernel. Then, out of the blue, later this evening it just up and reboots.

Maybe I should load it and leave the kernel to what they set it to, and see how that goes. I dunno.

I'm assuming you've done a full wipe (user data, cache, dalvik cache) and reinstall? If not, try that first.

I haven't really had any of those problems. Though, it'd be interesting to go back to a Froyo ROM just to see what it's like.
