Hello,

I've typically bought samsung in the past but am not sure if the firmware fix is a work around or a real fix for some of the newer models? For all I know they are all made by the same company and have the same issue or there is a better brand to get.

I haven't heard anything further about Samsung SSD firmware issues for maybe a year now. I'm fine with buying Samsung PRO SSDs, though ever since the reliability issue I've been firmware update checking every Samsung SSD I've bought.

I think there was an article last month that NAND supply is finally starting to build up again. Retail prices are starting to get a little bit better.
The 990 PRO is still expensive IMO, but the 990 EVO Plus seems to be quite popular.

The WD_BLACK 1TB is currently $89.22 in the cart at Newegg.
The 990 EVO Plus is $75.

The 990 EVO Plus is a DRAM-less drive.
And that's fine for most consumers. I did mention the WD_BLACK SN850X on sale, which is probably what I'd buy for a little bit more money. Newegg (add to cart to see price) has that for $20 less than Amazon U.S.

I do not know why the Hynix Gold NVME drives are not mentioned. It's always Samsung, they make good and expensive drives. I do have plenty of Samsung drives.

Yeah the WD black SN850X is a good drive, and a good deal.

PCIe 3 or 4? (5 isn't worth it IMO except for corner cases.) What am I putatively doing with the drive?

If I'm looking for a general purpose drive, at today's US pricing, probably the Klevv CRAS C910. Inexpensive and decent enough for most things.
