So I posted some time back about my parents owning a rental property and how the previous 2 tenants had destroyed the place. The first tenants were the worst. They were red neck types that did unbelievealle damage to the place. They put holes in walls, destroyed the carpets, made a huge mess of the back yard and more. The 2nd tenants were a korean family that were not much better. They smoked on the back balcony and threw their cig butts into the backyard. They never cleaned the kitchen or any other part of the house and basically lived like pigs. They also messed up the back yard quite badly. Think, throwing trash all over the place. We were really surprised by this family as most Asian families are pretty clean.

Needless to say the neighbours were not happy with my parents. Well the 3rd time we went through a realtor who helped us to find someone. She did the interview, vetted them and they moved in this past September after we did a number of renovations. We cleaned the carpets, cleaned up the place, replaced a couple of appliances, painted a couple of rooms, and did other basic maintenance. These guys looked much better at first glance. Chinese guy with a white wife and kid. They seemed good and their financials were OK from what I understand. However one red flag is that they have their mother in law staying with them. Well as they moved in we started to become startled by the amount of stuff they had, boxes and boxes and boxes. Well I can tell you as of today they are hoarders. I was in the house today for a stupid reason (they complained they couldn't open the front door, nothing was wrong) and I took some pics. Damn that's a shit load of boxes and shit. The bathrooms are littered with hundreds of makeup kits, bottles and other assorted junk. The kitchen is just about unusable with the amount of stuff in it. Every room has a shit load of stuff piled up. He does have a nice DVD and games collection I see though :p Anyway I suppose it could be worse. It doesn't look dirty unlike the previous 2 people just TOOOOO much stuff. they still seem like the best of the 3 tenants and so long as they don't ruin the structure we don't care all that much.

As for pics. Don't think that's legal is it?

i cant believe how awful so many people are. how can they live with themselves? how can they look in the mirror and see the horrible failures that they are and not jump off a bridge?

That's a little weird to be going into someone's home and taking pictures.

This.

Did you somehow disguise the fact that you were taking pics of their stuff by pretending to be getting shots of the door?

It's our house. We are renting it. THEY asked us to come over because their mother in law claimed she was locked out. She was not there when we got there, killing time at a local mall or something. We opened the door without any problems, no idea why she said her key didn't work. It's an hours drive out there too so this was annoying. Once opened I checked around a bit to make sure everything was all right, it's during this that I took some pics.

I don't know what freedom is like in canukastan but here in the god-blessed USA such activity is a major violation of right to privacy.

PIX OR BAN!

As for what we are dealing with. It's not dirty like a real hoarders house. Don't think of what you see on the show hoarders. Think of what the worst room in your house looked like when you move into a place. Only every room is like that. They could argue that they haven't finished moving in, which looks to be the case, but there's just physically not enough space to put all that stuff for it not to look like hoarding.

Maybe they are still unpacking ang organizing? When did they move in?

I still think it was inappropriate for you to be snooping around and taking pics while they're not there.

Moved in a month ago. There's simply not enough physical space to arrange the stuff. The math doesn't work. I seriously didn't think about it as an issue when I went in. But I suppose you are right.

Maybe they moved in from a much bigger house/unit and now have much less space to store their stuff? Don't say they should have sold some of them before moving; it's not an ideal world we live in.

Hmm lol I didn't even think of this possibility. And you know what with the mother-in-law it makes even more sense probably a lot of it is hers as well. Still though, some aspects like the bathrooms and kitchen are odd (like I said they were almost unusable).

This thread has kind of rounded the corner from tenant hoarder to creepy, picture-taking landlord.

I certainly wouldn't appreciate having my possessions photographed for some unknown purposes, whether taken by a complete stranger or my landlord.

Would you?

Wouldn't really bother me that much to tell you the truth. If I rented it would bother me even less. Depends on the nature of the photographs too. If it's photographs of the rooms and my stuff simply happens to be there then it really wouldn't bother me at all.
