Just my damn luck

I went to COMPUSA, they had 2 45g WD HDs in stock, I had them call Bestbuy to pricematch it, and they were out of stock. I went to another COMPUSA a few towns over, the the BestBuy next to it was ALSO out of stock of the 45g model.

O for two

Damn... I must have gotten Lucky... I live in NYC... went to Best Buy in Garden City.. they didn't have the Drive, but they did have it listed on their counter at $129.99 - $30mir = $99.99

I went to CompUSA down the block, they called Best Buy.. the technician told them the drive was $99.99 after rebate... so it took some convincing on my part to let the CompUSA manager know it's $129 - 30 = $99 .. and he called BestBuy back.. and they verified that it's $99 after a $30 MIR... so the manager price matched. I got my drive for $140... and got the mail in rebates... woo hoo! i got lucky i think... and they only had 3 WD HDDs in stock.

I went to 1-45 north,

The 'associate' called best buy... I do not know which best buy he called...
however I think you were probably meaning which CompUSA I went to The "north super store"

Good luck...

BTW I got there last one... one of the two nicest CompUSA employees dug it out of the stor room for me...

I guess CompUSA can't ruin everyone's personality

LuZeR... the one up the block from CompUSA Garden City... the Best Buy on Old Country Road... went in there... they had a sticker on the shelf for $129... then went to CompUSA.. they called Best Buy, didn't have any in stock, but verified the price for $129, which was good enough for the manager.

Well for those of you that live in NJ, I went to East Hanover today and they had about 20 of them. Unfortunately when I asked them to call Best Buys to get a PM, I tried two BB places and none carried this drive. By then CompUSA probably thought I was a con-man.

Does anyone have a receipt in NJ?

I went to the CompUSA in East Hanover NJ, they had 15 WDs left. I had them call 3 Besy Buys, one best buy told them it was $201, annother $189, and the last $129. They thought I was a con too. I bought 2 drives anyway, figuring that finding them was the hard part, and I could get a PM later at a diferent store with the receipts. Went all over NJ, no luck, oh well.
I returned 'em, they're not worth $200 a piece.

Ok, I know this is a DUMB question, but I just have to ask anyway....

Would anyone who can pull off this price matching deal be willing to scoop up one for me??? (of course I'd pay for it plus the shipping)

We have a CompUSA here but we don't have a Best Buy in New Orleans. :| What a bummer!!!!!! :(

Just thought I'd ask....

Thanks! :)

I'm with squat. I'm about 120 miles from the nearest CompUSA and I just can't see making the trip over a deal that probably wouldn't work anyway, but I'd definitely like to get in on this if anyone is willing to ship me one.

Can't hurt to ask. :p

As of noon today they still have 9 of these at the CompUSA in Tysons Corner Va. I have one on reserve and I am about to go pick it up. All the Best Buy stores in this area are sold out so I am hoping that some local retailer puts it on sale for $130 or less in the next 14 days (before my last chance to return it)

On a slightly different subject; When you see an item in the Sunday ad at Circuit City or Best Buy and you know you are going to go get it, if it doesn't have a rebate that requires a sale date of that Sunday or later then you can buy it on Saturday and go back on Sunday and they will price match against themselves. So for instance if an item is currently $300 and its on sale Sunday for $199 they will give you the difference ($100) plus 10% of the difference ($10) back on Sunday so you get it for $189.

WOW i can't believe this deal still happened to me today, on wednesday. local compusa still had one of these drives on the shelf, for 209.99, and i asked them to call up best buy. turns out best buy still has it for 129.99 with one left in stock, so i got the pricematch plus the rebates. total 50 bucks after taxes.

thanks haha i've been trying to get a 40GB from staples for a week with no luck. bastards.

anyways i was at the anaheim, ca store. guy was pretty rude, like 'the deal was over two days ago!!' but too bad for him i guess...

For those who live in MD, Towson store and glen burnie store carry 15 each.....(for COMPUSA... The problem is PM with BEST BUY.... since all of the best Buy's in the BMORE area are all out of stock for the 45Gig 5400RPM HD.... Can I still go to CompUSA and ask them to PM knowing that it's out of stock?

I would like comments or suggestions... i also would snag two or three for those that are interested in buying off of me and don't have access to PM it with BEST BUY ( I feel You SQUAT...

I went to the Best Buy in Columbia, MD they didn't have any but they had a sign for 179.99, but that was for the 7200 RPM drive, not the 5400 RPM drive which has the rebates at COMPUSA, so if you are trying to do a price match make sure they ask for the price of the WD 5400 RPM 45 GB Drive.

I purchased my drive from CompUSA on Sunday (8 Oct) for $190 in Fairfax, VA. Rebates mailed out on Tuesday vie certified mail. :)

I was able to get the BB pricematch on Wednesday (11 Oct.) for $130. I took the scan of a Best Buy receipt that had been posted in another thread. Piece of cake!

For the record, the Potomac Mills (703-385-6030) and Rockville Best Buys still had a 45GB drive each, but I didn't have to worry about that with the scan of the receipt.
