Its not Waco, its in West, Tx which is north of Waco...nice little Czech community with good kolaches

Happened at 8pm, triage was at the high school but they moved it a short time ago, not sure I'll get to see the weather...we're getting thunderstorms overnight, possibly severe which will complicate the scene there

I live 60 miles north of West and the shockwave shook my house. One of the guys I work with just happened to be leaving town when the explosion went off so he's safe, but I fell for everyone else. I'll be donating blood and plasma in the morning when I get off work.

I'm about 60 miles south and heard it, thought it was just live fire at Fort Hood until I heard the news...pictures are wild.

Reports of 60 to 70 dead, hundreds injured.
Why the hell would they stick a fertilizer plant in a residential area? I mean we know these things blow up every now and then, even though it's a tiny town seems pretty damn stupid to me...

Any word on where it was situated in relation to the town? The explosion in that video had immense power. It would have levelled anything nearby.

i was staioned at Nellis AFB Nevada when the NASA rocket fuel plant blew up in henderson. nearly knocked me out of bed, i thought it was a earthquake and somebody trying to kick my dorm door in. I opened the door ready to scrap when i saw a gigantic cloud like that one and was like OOOHH SHIT.

That explosion was MASSIVE. I imagine all the firemen that were fighting that fire are dead.

Anyone else thinking sabotage? The plant is near Waco and it is close to the anniversary of the raid.

No. Unfortunately explosions at places like this are not all that uncommon. The worst I can think of in negligence, but I don't see this being done on purpose.

Texas City was almost wiped out in the forties when a fertilizer ship exploded at the dock.

That stuff packs a lot of energy.

The West, Texas Explosion was one day after the 66th anniversary of the Texas City Explosion and Fire. 600 killed in that fire (16 Apr 47)

When I lived in Galveston, I met several people that told stories of going up to Texas City after the explosion and looking for relatives... (Apparently, emergency response wasn't very well developed at the time.)

Weather underground shows a line of thunder showers approaching Waco.

Best of luck to the people of West, Texas.
