New al Qaeda document sheds light on Europe, U.S. attack plans

"CNN) -- A previously secret document found at Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan sets out a detailed al Qaeda strategy for attacking targets in Europe and the United States.

The document -- a letter written to bin Laden in March 2010 by a senior operational figure in the terror group -- reveals that tunnels, bridges, dams, undersea pipelines and internet cables were among the targets....

CNN has obtained details of the document from sources briefed on its contents. The 17-page letter is in Arabic.

Al-Mauretani proposed that al Qaeda recruits take jobs with companies transporting gasoline and and other sensitive companies in the West, and await the right moment to strike.

He said targets should include tunnels, airports and even "Love Parades" -- gay and lesbian events held every summer in Germany."

I would think a fertilizer company could be a "sensitive" target. No way do I think this is an "accident" a couple days after Boston. I don't care what kind of Benghazi style BS Obama comes up with

1) Awful tragedy
2) People do need to stop with portrait mode when filming on their phones. That shit is well and truly unacceptable
3) I very strongly doubt this was terrorism

And why exactly would Al Qaeda blow up a plant in West, TX? This is very volatile stuff in the first place, I wouldn't be surprised at all that this is an accident.

While I agree in general that this is likely an accident, what better way to make all Americans feel terrorized than to attack targets where people least expect them? I've long thought if they really wanted to cause terror they would hit lots of small towns and random places instead of just "big" targets...

Based on local news there are nine confirmed deaths. 6 firefighters, 2 EMS, and 1 policeman.

As for the comment about a fertilizer plant being built so close to a town, chances are the town was built up due to having a fertilizer plant.

Texas City was almost wiped out in the forties when a fertilizer ship exploded at the dock.

That stuff packs a lot of energy.

yeah. the shit has a ton of power. the Oklahoma city bombing used a truckload. imagine the power of the explosion of a factory.

It's nothing to mess with.

Ban fertilizer plants?

Be careful... I pissed off the moderators when I left a "Ban trash cans, people can stick bombs in them!" comment in the Boston bombing thread. People around here just don't have a morbid sense of humor.

Besides, this is Texas. Their politicians are more rational than your typical New England Democrat.

Yeah, lack of regulations, that's what caused this explosion.

after the Oklahoma city bombing they did a ton of regulations. though this does not look like a terrorist attack.

According to the news this morning, there was a school right across the street that got destroyed...imagine if this happened during school hours?

I'm sure the school would have been evacuated, the fire was going on for a while before the boom...

Yeah. Being that close to a potentially dangerous site they had to be well aware of the dangers that would accompany any kind of fire.

Ever seen the edge of a chemical fire flash outward, away from the chemical cloud mass it is igniting? No, nobody has.

wut? On reddit it was determined this was just the camera shutter failing to keep up with the flames.

Nothing but an artifact.
