Went under the knife yesterday (snip-snip)

After 4 kids in 6yrs, we decided to make the cut to drastically decrease the chances of having more kids. A month ago, I went in for a consult and was introduced to a new technique called "no scalpel method" where the 3mm opening wouldn't be made w/ a knife, but with a pointed tweezers/scissor instrument. Differing from the traditional method, this method is faster and also would reduce swelling and recovery time.

D-Day. Took a Vicodin an hour prior. Lying on the clinic bed, I was given local anesthetic (Lidocain) via small injections, which set in less than 5mins. The Dr pulled out the vas deferens (one at a time) to cut a section, then cauterized both ends. For a comparison, it looked like angel hair pasta coated in sauce.

After the 45min procedure, the Dr didn't need to sew up the opening, as the skin will just close by itself. Was instructed to ice for an hour then as needed afterwards. I felt some soreness (2 out of 10) but was able to walk normally immediately afterwards. The following day, I'm back at work and feeling fine. I'm glad to have a more permanent system in place! So if you've been hesitant of doing it because of the pain, it really is very negligible.

Gonna get it done myself, possibly as soon as later this year. I've had a couple of surgeries, but I have to admit that this one scares me a little.

Once I have all the kids I will want, and they get to an age where I know they're healthy, I will probably get that done. It's a minor inconvenience, and will make things easier on my wife. What's the downside?

5 kids later... I decided I wanted to have sex. Often. As well as get some sleep on any given night. Without little feet in my face or a bottle to be made in the middle of the night or whatnot.

It was a no-brainer.

The thought of what they do makes one squeamish. I'm the type of guy that cringes when I see a blow to the nuts on TV. But honestly, it wasn't a bad procedure at all as far as discomfort or pain.

I had it done last year (we decided two kids was plenty) and it is wonderful to not really have to worry about having a "surprise" anymore.

A man getting cut is one of the ultimate forms of humiliation and submission.

When I was married to my first wife, my mother-in-law tried to "tell" me I was going to get cut. I told her real quick, and in no uncertain terms that "NO, I was not".

My mother-in-law went on to tell me it was easier for the man to get cut then a woman, and after the woman had the kids, that is the least I could do.

I do not care if it is easier for the man to get cut, I am NOT going to be cut, screw that.

Sterilization is an act of submission, and I am not submitting.

I think with that attitude the odds are good you may not be screwing much more than your hand.

Is a man not of the right mind to spare his wife an even more invasive, painful, and expensive procedure? The ladies endure periods, various ailments, and child birth, I think it's more than appropriate for the man to shoulder some responsibility if there are plans to stop the possibility of more children.

That's not to say I'm all gung ho for it, I'm just willing to (forgive the term) sack up and take one for the team. The thought of sharp things cutting and poking around my junk doesn't make me feel too great either though.

Sooo the pill fails?

Everything can fail. Including this procedure.

Well not everything... but try to get a woman to have a major surgical procedure to get all the shit taken out. Yeah, you'll have more success fucking a cactus.

Sterilization is an act of submission, and I am not submitting.

Pfft. Self-conscious much? It's not an act of submission if you do it voluntarily for your own benefit.

I was done having kids. My wife wasn't fond of the procedure, and really DIDN'T want me to do it. I didn't give her a choice.

She is the one giving birth. If she does not want to get knocked up, she needs to do something about it.

my was a bit more involved. the right vas was ok as in i didnt feel it but when my doc clamped onto my left Vas i felt it and it hurt like a bitch she had to give me a local inot the vas.

after surgery my nuts swelled to the size of a softball and about a two months after the procedure when i shot my load it felt like i was just punched in the nuts. went back to my doc who said it was post op swelling and gave me 800mg motrin to take for a week. i did and the pain went away and never returned.

LOL. Ok.

On top of the minimally invasive risk compared to women having surgery, the lack of hormone risk if they are on birth control, and the pure convenience over condoms...there's another factor that made sense for us. Money.

It was a one time cost for me, $650 out of pocket. We both work for Catholic employers and birth control is not covered. She had to pay over $50 a month for birth control pills. One year of no pills and my procedure is covered.

Her being on birth control for the next 15 years would be almost $10,000.

No brainer. It's not submission, it's being a man.
