Wife has to go out of town tonight and won't be back until Thursday so we went to vote this morning. We got to the County Election Board offices just before 8am and the parking lot was packed. When we got in line she was the 133rd person and I was the 134th. Amazing. When we got inside the guy I was getting my ballot from and I were chatting and he told me it had been like that every day since early voting began. Said the turnout has been unbelievable so far and that they had more people vote early in one day this year than they normally do for the entire early voting period in previous years.

One of the guys who works for me left at 9:30 to go down there, the County Election Board is 6 blocks North of our building, and when he got there he called to say the line was out the building, across the parking lot and around the corner on the sidewalk. He's guessing there were between 250-300 people in line.

That's going to make people not want to vote. I want to vote, but I really don't have that kind of time to wait in line (was going to go last week, but gf had a death in the family that kind of took away from that).

It dramatically makes it difficult for working class people to vote. In fact, in states which don't have early voting, it makes it nearly impossible for millions of people to vote.

Yea, its going to be 4 years of Obama. IMHO, can't wait for the higher unemployment rates that his policies bring.

Well it's still a freakin' disgrace. Old fart Republicans shouldn't be kept standing in lines. It's dangerous for their health and the pig farmers and corn people need to do chores. I want to win, but not that way.

Which is why election day is NOT a holiday. And why Republicans want to make it as hard as possible for people to vote.

Fixed.

Although given the HUGE gains Democrats will make in the Senate and House, it looks like the entire electorate is moving center-left.

Just prepping us for the lines for toilet paper, comrade? Sorry...couldn't resist.

This is a great thing, we need higher turnout.

Techs and Jpeyton - you need to get your talking points straight on if this is a bad or good thing. Can't have party disunity. I tend to go with jpeytons view. Most republicans work for a living.

I went this morning as well (Lake County, OH) and was in and out in < 45 minutes. However, I got there around 7:50, the office was supposed to open at 8 but it was apparent they had opened earlier. By the time I left, the line was easily 3x as long as when I got there.

My wife didn't vote early, but we're hoping that things go a little smoother. In Ohio, you can vote early by county, meaning that everyone in the county has one location to early vote at. We're hoping that the situation at our precinct is a little better tomorrow morning (when she's planning to go).

By all means, please go and vote. Don't let the process pass you by.

I don't understand why we don't simply allow early voting for the two weeks prior to the election? It seems silly.

Like most economic downturns, its the lower classes that get hurt the most. I'm doing ok, odds are I wouldn't get hurt too badly - hopefully. In any case, I notice most Obama supporters tend to be worse off. I feel for those people. IMHO, it is them that will get hurt the most. Oh well, you touch a power line, you get shocked.

Hope old "moonbeam" is doing well, now. If not, IMHO, its going to get a lot worse for you.

I predict he wouldn't get past the first 2 years.. hahhaa.. In any case, I could be wrong. However, this all feels like the movie Fahrenheit 9/11. It took a while for the public to get past the hype, and realize what a "mistake" it was... IMHO :)

8 years.. I have trouble believing this. His campaign was based on "yes we can".. now its based on "yes, we can.. if not, I'll give it my best try"... so we will see.. :)

Could be? Probably are.

It will take years for the GOP to come back with a candidate and political machine that runs as well as Obama.

You think McCain could have raised $600 million if he opted out of public campaign funding? When pigs with lipstick fly.

2016 looks a long way off, doesn't it :)

Unemployment is going to be > 7% with the current policies.

Yes, I think its around 7%-8%. Think Obama can beat it? We'll see. I don't need Obama to turn water into wine, just improve the economy for everyone -- esp., the poor folks who get hurt the most in an economic downturn.

aren't workers paid anyway? I know there are workers who have to punch-in, but I thought even this was covered in the law?

If it's illegal to withhold an employee from voting, there should be adequate compensation for the employee's lost time, no?

absolutely disgraceful. If you believe any of that, you shouldn't be allowed to vote with such a gross inability to discern reality.

I happen to very close to Baltic issues, and not only is this an offensive bastardization of how Obama's policies will affect that area of the world, but that picture alone is EXTREMELY offensive, and ignorant towards a very, very sensitive issue.

It's quite shameful, really.
