Go here for the video and Stream the Hennessey vs 2 Supras

This is a video of another a PHR turbo supra vs vs Hennessey vs 900rwhp Supra.

The left camera car is a PHR turbo car, PHR makes kits for the supra with proven LOWEST lag; you can see it jump out first. But of course in the end once the 900rwhp supra's turbo spools, GOOD NIGHT!

<< The price of admission is about $26,000.00 for a used Supra Turbo without adding any mods yet! If that's your idea of cheap... >>

Used Supras can be had for much less.

"I don't see people clambering to pay $20,000 for a mid-90's f-body..."

That would REALLY be clever, since a NEW one only costs $21,000!

"Used Supras can be had for much less."

I put a link in there for a used Supra Turbo, where's yours?

<< And I would pay that $10k to get a used supra over a camaro, because everybody and their uncle has a camaro. >>

Wow, you must be one of those rich boys...I cant really justify $10k difference just cuz "everybody and their uncle has a camaro."

Sounds kinda....stupid to me..

Wow, those Supras toasted that Hennessey.

The thing about import racing is not so much the cost, it's the fact that you can get nice HP and still have a car that's almost as reliable as most stock domestics. Not as much of a need for internals and tranny mods, either.

So what if the powerband looks like a mountain range and you don't generate HP until you're near redline? ;)

<< Supras are great cars, but to make them produce obscene amounts of power makes them unstreetable. You think that guy drives his supra with the boost fully cranked everyday? Hell no, he probably puts it down real low unless he's at the dyno or the track. You simply don't have to do that with V8s, the power is always there, never wavering. No turbo lag either >>

hahah with that V8 that also means getting 15mpg...

btw sohcrates, anyway pics from that meet with VWvortex?

<< Ever think maybe they haven't been produced since '98 BECAUSE of the low sales? Ever think the low sales might be related to the HIGH price? And I'm guessing that's the reason for the low number of sales. Ball's in your court to explain EXACTLY why the sales were so low now... >>

I can't prove this, but I remember reading somewhere a while ago that they stopped making Supras to clear a platform for SUVs, to which the market was shifting. So sad!

However, the IS300 has a similar engine. So there's your Supra reincarnate. No?

Supra sales were not low. It was the fact that there weren't that many of them produced and that the US market did not recieve the majority of what was produced.

Kwan1

Modded supras get the same milage.

Pay

I saw a guy with his '02 Camaro Z28 dyno last weekend. He had intake lid and headers, running him a total of ~$1300. He dyno'd 355hp/367ft lbs. Sure, $700 dollars wouldn't get you an extra 70hp from a LS1, but it would get you damn close.

ornery - have you EVER sat in a supra? have you ever DRIVEN a supra? i've driven both the supra and the camaro (wanted to buy the SS a couple of months ago), and IMO the supra is a much better made car. the seating, the shifting, the interior, etc. but you pay a lot of $$$ for that refinement.

The interior of the Supra is funky, but its better than the Camaro. But, then again, it depends on your priorities in buying the car. I'd personally take a Camaro and end up adding a lot of custom interior work.

heh. yeah, but i really LOVE the supra's shifter. one of my biggest issues with the SS was the shifter and the HUGE hood. it was like driving blind. one of my big issues with supras is that they're dyno queens. until that turbo kicks in, it's got nothing. but after that turbo spools, :D:D:D. the SS has balls the instant you hit the pedal.

No. So I guess those links don't count, eh?
>>

as always, i LOVE your links. you make no mention that a LIMITED number of supras were produced each year, OR that they were so much more expensive. for argument's sake, let's say that the top-end supra was as cheap as the top end camaro. which one do you think would sell better?

i wouldn't buy either though. i'd get the last gen tt rx-7.

"...you make no mention that a LIMITED number of supras were produced each year, OR that they were so much more expensive."

Toyota Supra Endangered Species
  • "While there may be some finger pointing after its demise, Toyota cannot be blamed for the cancellation of the Supra. The company has tried everything possible to keep this vehicle on the market. In the last two years Toyota has dropped the Supra's asking price by thousands of dollars and reintroduced the six-speed manual transmission in an effort to get people more interested in this vehicle. Unfortunately, it has not worked, and America has lost another fantastic car, as more and more buyers snap up full-size trucks and SUVs (read: Supremely Ungainly Vehicles.)"
I'm not the one saying how cheap it is to mod for lower ETs. When the initial price is in the stratosphere that point is moot! It was over $40,000.00 in '98 for whatever reason. Good Lord, that's as much as a Vette! Why is it being compared to a Camaro?

like i said before... they were too expensive. the top model was something like $50k right? a *LITTLE* bit more than $25k for a camaro. the PRICE was it's ultimate undoing, not that it was a crappy car. which is also why the 3000gt, the 300zx, the nsx, and the rx-7 also stopped being produced. focus shifted to the more affordable ~$20k sports coupes instead of the $40k-$100k big dawgs. which is also why the wrx, the upcoming evo, 350x, and rx-8 are all priced $25k-$35k.

I've got to punch in to work in about 5 1/2 hours damn it! :Q

My point isn't that it is a crappy car, it's that it's "overclockability" is moot when the initial price is so high. It was probably expensive because Toyota is tooled up for FWD. When they build a proper RWD machine it's gonna cost. Seems a shame to try an eek so much from a small engine. I prefer the low tech, brute strength of a V8. It's the cheaper way to go in this neck of the woods and gets the job done pretty effortlessly.

G' night!
