Went to see the NY Jets vs. the Cleveland Browns yesterday down at the Meadowlands. This is the first pro-football game I've ever been to. My buddy had an extra ticket and brought me along.
The thing that was annoying the crap outta me was all the friggin' standing around waiting for TV to come back from commercial break. That game could have been over and done with in under 2 hours. The first quarter was pretty much almost straight through, with one small break. It was literally done in like 25 minutes counting the break. Then come the second quarter and the following ones every change of posession and after every kick, they're standing around on the field just waiting. Took me a while to figure it out. The network was going to commercial break and they don't let the game continue until they're back. What the frig is that?
And they send out the cute Jets cheerleaders to do a little dance to distract all us idiots while this stupidity is going on. I can't believe the people that buy tickets put up with this. I mean they're paying $100 bucks a ticket to watch a game that is getting put on hold every 8 minutes. I guess I can't really complain since I got my ticket free, but if I had purchased season tickets I'd be plenty pissed off. Not to mention the gouging at the beer stand. 7.25 for a freakin' Budweiser. Good god. Glad we tailgated out in the parking lot from 1pm till 4pm.
Anyway, just cheesed me off a bit. /rant

so lemme get this straight

you get a free ticket to the game, tailgated (i'm presuming you had fun, although reading your post you wouldn't know it) and you're whining about having to watch cheerleaders during the commercial break.

you suck at being a football fan.

0.3/10 on the rant

I'm an avid fan of college ball, and I completely agree. Most games take nearly an hour too long by my estimation, and if it's a prime time night game it's even worse. I understand that TV stations need to show commercials to get revenue, but the fact that there's actually a "TV timeout official" provided for in the rules of the game is ludicrous. For the fans at the game there's absolutely no point to it, and most fans at home will just switch over and watch another game for a few minutes during the commercials.

the main reason i dont watch much football anymore is because of the comercials, they FUCKING SUCK and i cant stand them

so i watch real football (soccer) because a 90 min game takes roughly 90 min to finish, only 1 break at 1/2 time

I would have loved to go to the Dallas/Jets game during Thanksgiving. I went to high school with the Jets QB (Kellen Clemens) and I would have loved to see that douchebag get pwnt by the cowboys.

Welcome to your first game, maybe if you went to a real stadium (or game for that matter) it would have been a more enjoyable experience.

this must have been the first time you've ever watched a football game in your life if you didn't know the game wouldn't be over in 60 minutes (4 15min quarters).

1. Set Tivo / DVR to record game
2. Do something else for 1.5 hours
3. Start watching recorded game
4. Fast forward commercials
5. ???
6. Profit!

Actually, we stayed until 1:45 in the fourth quarter. All the wussies got up and left when there was about 11 minutes to go in the fourth because it started pissing rain and it was friggin' cold. We stuck it out until almost the very end. When Cleveland scored that last touchdown because the dumbass Jets defense wasn't tackling him but rather trying to slap the ball outta his hands, we gave up hope they could pull it off.
I didn't expect them to win, but at least they made it close. They totally blew it with 3 minutes to go in the fourth when they had the ball on Cleveland's 20. They kept passing instead of running and they got shut down.
And yeah, I don't watch football on television. I don't even bother to follow it. It's wicked time consuming and I just can't get as excited about it as all you fantasy football playing fanboi's. I expected commercials and would account for about 40 minutes of commercials in 2 hours of a game but you've got over an hour worth of commercials in there, you don't think that's excessive?
I'm the same way with following baseball as well. At least baseball doesn't halt the friggin' game so that the commercials can finish though. You go see an MLB game and they're gonna be playing ball, not standing around and getting stiff waiting for NFL to get their pockets fattened up.

Haha! We tried! My buddy and I went down to gate D to check out the crazyness. It was like an ATOT convention hehe. "HEY THERE'S A GIRL!!!!! BEWBIES!!!!! SHOW THE BEWBIES!!!". We didn't see any do it though. They had a whole bunch of security jerks standing around waiting to escort any improper young ladies off the premises should they decided to do that. We were all the way on the other end of the stadium though so maybe we missed the action during the time it tooks us to walk down there.

TV timeouts are annoying if you're at the game, but IMO it's worth it. I have season tix and even though you miss some things you normally wouldn't if you were watching at home, it's a great way to spend a few hours on a Sunday.

I don't know why I'd feel entitled to watch a game without interruptions just because I paid for a ticket. They do the same thing at hockey games, probably basketball games too. It hasn't ever bothered me when I'm at a game and they take a TV timeout, I just talk to my wife. Millions of people watching on TV vs tens of thousands watching in the stands... meh.

Well I'd agree if tickets didn't cost so much. I checked my stub and it's $75. I had said a hundred, so that was wrong. If you paid $75 to go see a music concert, wouldn't you be little pissed if they stopped for 5 to 6 minutes between songs and just stood there on the stage looking dumb? The whole well I'll just talk to me wife thing is fine but you didn't pay $75 to talk to your wife. You paid $75 to watch a game.
Ok maybe they make more money by selling advertising on tv, but I'd wager the amount they get from ticket sales, consessions, souvenirs, in stadium advertising and so forth is a fair chunk of change. Kind of a kick in the teeth to the real fans of your team if you ask me. If it weren't for the die hard fans that make football what it is and go out and freeze their butt off to see those games in person, the NFL would not exist.
