I know most of you don't care, but I'm very happy with what happened...

I got an email from H&R Block yesterday about some seasonal call center positions they have available. Not thinking too much about it, I called and said I'd be down there this morning. So I go, do the questionaire, sit for a 10 minute interview, and wait because the interviewer "will be right back."

She came back in after about two minutes and said "So I just reviewed this with my manager - would you like a job?"

WOOT!

Granted, it's only Tier 1 call center crap, but it's at least RELATED to MIS (B.S, and a B.S. in genetics, too...), and it is a temp-to-permanent position. Most of all, it's better than flipping burgers or greeting Walmart customers, which I was afraid would be my only option when my unemployment runs out.

...

I know most of you are probably thinking that I'm way too excited about such a crappy job, but I have had nothing but bad luck since we moved down here (Kansas City) and I wasn't expecting ANYTHING going in there. I have had very few interviews (lots of Sprint ex-employees with lots more experience who are just as desperate) and not a SINGLE offer - to walk out with a job offer after the first interview was mind-blowing, to say the least.

(Yes, I know that they're just filling seats for tax season, and a trained monkey could have gotten the job - that's not the point. The point is that my foot is in the proverbial door, and thus it should be at least marginally easier for me to find permanent employment at H&R Block. If not, I'll be paying the bills while looking for something better, and I'll be filling my resume out a little bit more...)

Sorry to write this long-winded drivel, but I have been reading everyone else's stories about working/not working and I finally have a success story of my own.

Cliff notes:
graduated two years ago - no job (in field) since.
went for an interview and got an offer on the spot.
i'm happy...
...even if a trained monkey could do the same job.

Securing gainful employment is always worth celebrating; moreso in today's economy.

Congratulations.
