😀, yeah, I was standing in the river so we could snap a quick picture and put him back in the water. My friend with the camera had no waders, so he was standing on the shore, plus he is kinda tall.

Nice catch.

Any good fishing on the Deschutes this time of year?

I grew up in Eugene. I used to do a lot of fly fishing for summer steelhead on the North Umpqua. Gorgeous river. I Live in Medford now. I really need to get up the Rogue pretty soon. You're giving me the fishing bug.

Nope, spinner for me. I'd like to get in to fly fishing, but a decent setup would break my budget right now. 🙁

There's always good fishing on the Deschutes 😛 I haven't really been keeping up on the runs lately, but usually early and late summer are pretty good runs I think.

It's not that bad. You can get a decent rod, reel, and line for less than $100. Course you could also spend $300 on a rod alone if you wanted. But I've been fishing with the same 7 weight $30 rod, $30 reel, and $30 floating line for about 5 years. Ideally, I'd have a 5 or 6 weight for trout and an 8 or 9 for steelhead, but the 7 is a good compromise for both if you are on a budget.

It's the flies that can get expensive and kill your budget. But you probably don't lose as many flies as you do spinners. I've tied a few of my own but I suck at it and they take me forever so i buy most of mine.

Well, I've got a birthday coming up in August. Maybe someone will make a contribution to the cause 😉
Did you take lessons or did someone you know teach you?
