A buddy and I fished the Sandy River, near Sandy, Oregon on tuesday. This was the biggest catch of the day.

Is that a king salmon? Looks like about a 12-15 pounder. Nice catch.

Nice catch.
Any good fishing on the Deschutes this time of year?
I grew up in Eugene. I used to do a lot of fly fishing for summer steelhead on the North Umpqua. Gorgeous river. I Live in Medford now. I really need to get up the Rogue pretty soon. You're giving me the fishing bug.

Don't forget the camera!
It's not that bad. You can get a decent rod, reel, and line for less than $100. Course you could also spend $300 on a rod alone if you wanted. But I've been fishing with the same 7 weight $30 rod, $30 reel, and $30 floating line for about 5 years. Ideally, I'd have a 5 or 6 weight for trout and an 8 or 9 for steelhead, but the 7 is a good compromise for both if you are on a budget.Originally posted by: Occifer

Nope, spinner for me. I'd like to get in to fly fishing, but a decent setup would break my budget right now.

It's the flies that can get expensive and kill your budget. But you probably don't lose as many flies as you do spinners. I've tied a few of my own but I suck at it and they take me forever so i buy most of mine.
