Bought this drive from Newegg last night for the reg. price of $44.99, and today they credited me the $4. First class outfit, IMHO.

I really don't need another DVD burner, but I just ordered one of these.

FWIW I got this drive and it made more coasters than any burner I've ever had, I returned it and got the Pioneer DVR-110 and haven't had one failed disc since.

Anyone really wanting a Beige version of the drive can get one here, but it's $41.99 with $4 shipping. I don't want a black drive myself, but due to the difference in price (black is currently $40.99 with free shipping) I'll probably get a black one then just give it a face-lift. :)

Tested results don't mean much long term. I used a bunch of NuTech DVDR 082 drives because of great reviews, and indeed they worked really well, for a few months. Every last one of them (just under 10) died anywhere from 3-6 months.

Try using a different brand of disc. I have a Pioneer, I think DVR-107 or something, and it burns on any and every disc I toss in there w/o problems, but a buddy with an NEC (gah, don't know model but probably first gen 16x) gets coasters with some of the discs and perfect burns with others. Also, some of the discs that I burn fine in the Pioneer just won't burn AT ALL in that older NEC.

Well I went with the Benq to actually replace the NEC dvd-rw that went bad after about a year. Luckily I used my Amex to purchase the item and am replacing it under my 'double' warranty.
So if it comes down to luck-of-the-draw as far a reliability then I am going to buy one that has better test results.

NEC are good drives, but they really dont sing until you put on the hacked firmware. Im at work, i dont have the links but google up NEC firmware. load up these firmwares and the NEC media finickyness goes bye bye
