I bought it last night =( I could have saved $2, damn NewEgg they should offer 14day payment adjustment (I'd even accept credit towards next NewEgg purchase)

damn tempting even though I just recently bought the 3520A, I could always throw that recorder into the other rig I'm about to finally piece together with old parts...

Bah I jumped in at $48 + tax and FedEx took a few days to deliver. ;|

Anyway, doesn't this drive (or any DVD drive) ship with a default region setting? It's not a big deal, but my DVD player wants me to burn one of my 5 allotted region settings?

I bit, although I didn't get a combo. For the mouse they wanted 4.99 for shipping. Now I can make 2 copies at a time for my side job. It will save me some time.

One of the combos is for:

* LEGACY 4.7GB 8X DVD-R 100 Pack Disc - Retail
* Model #: R8X100CB
* Item #: N82E16817131036
* Price: $34.00
* Combo Price: $29.00

Since I've never owned a DVD burner, is this media acceptable and is it a good price?

Thanks.

What type of software are you all using for your OEM drives?

My primary interest is a software package that will allow me to make back ups of my current dvds. (I'm one of those anti-scratch people.) :)

Hmm It says free shipping, but on the order page it wants $4.99

Edit: The combo mouse was adding the shipping, drop that, don't need any more mice.

I would not get this. Somewhere in this forum is a thread for some Taiyo Yuden 100pks DVD-R for 28 bucks or something. I would get this. I believe shop4tech.com has em. Anyone else can feel free to comment as I am not the biggest media dude either. I've heard Riteks G04s are good as well.

Nero is good for everyday burning. DVDCopyX is pretty tight for backing up. Any other ideas folks?

My Nero is old. As in ver. 5.5.3.0 which is a bundled verion for an old 24x CD RW. I guess that means I need to buy the Nero 6.3. I doubt that a new NEC 3540 would work well with it.

got my drive today....I think mine is defective. It is making serious crunching sounds, and it will read 1 out of 5 discs I put in there, whether they are factory pressed DVDs or DVD-R or DVD+Rs I burned in my Pioneer DVR-108.

Anybody else have a drive making funny noises?

Same thing here with the same problem, it wont burn and it crunches and goes mad...
I had to send it back, and with the money I spent sending it back this is no longer a hot deal, its a terrible deal considering "what if the replacement is F'd up aswell" G'dam newegg and there half ass shipping methods. my drive came in a bag, no protection and half out of the bag when got it. I also belive they had sent this drive to someone else before me cause on the bottom the last person wrote "i'm broke" in pencil...

Guys and gals,

If you feel like you've been owned by newegg for some defective drive or what not. Fight it! It takes some hard work sometimes, but in the end its worth it. One time they tried to tack on some restocking fee for some BS defective ram and it took me an hour on the phone to fight. But in the end I won. Customer service is customer service. Don't settle for anything less. Kna mean?
