If you're in CA you might as well get it from Monarch, cheaper unit price and no tax to boot. Also free shipping.

What application are you guys using with your burner. I assume Nero 6.3 Ultra or is there something better/cheaper?

There is nothing better than nero anymore, for the most part.

Is there an OEM version of Nero 6.3 Ultra? $85 is more than I was looking to spend on software (nero).

Wow...this price is crazy hot, but I already have a 3500 that burns single layer DVD+R's (the only media I've used in the 8 months I've had my drive) at 16x, so I guess I don't really need one....:p

damn newegg sent me a black one instead of a silver. I wish they could just send me a silver faceplate so I don't have to waste cash and send teh whole thing back.

dang! I just received mine today, bought it for $49 shipped (got taxed since I'm in CA) in a combo special (NewEgg CD case). I'm happy with it anyways.

if it was their mistake, they should foot the return shipping costs...

Whats the best bios (modded) to use at this time?

Also whats the best dvd-rom drive to compliment this burner in terms of better "read" speeds? I heard the NEC isnt so great even with the modded read limits.

I found the following at cdfreaks.... might wanna check it out.

Hi!

I?d recommend the AOPEN 1648/AAP: it is extremely fast, has a very good error correction and a good built-quality. Additionally it?s compatible with ?Nero DriveSpeed? which allows you to regulate the speed of the drive, so it?s either very fast or very quiet (for DVD-playback)

AOpen at Newegg

Not sure how this compares to the NEC drive but hopefully this helps you out.

Also on the modded firmware, there is a NEC bitsetting v1.01 mod that allows you to remove riplock, add bitsetting, RPC-1, and region control. If you google "NEC 3540 firmware" you should be able to find something in the first two links or so. Be warned though,

I do not recommend this at all. You could screw up your drive and if you choose to use the information provided here, you do so at your own risk. I honestly have left my flashing days since I sold my Plextor 12x CD burner and I have no experience with any modding lately. So that's the warning. Hope this helps.

Burn 2 copies of a movie at a time.

They're probably going into my main rig and my ghetto HTPC (Dell PowerEdge 400SC server).

At Monarch, It's 43.00 and you are required to buy the OEM NERO suite 6.3 software for 6.99. I think that kills the deal for some folks who don't want software, but Ill put in in the main post for those who will like it.

I feel like hiring that Walmart Smiley Dude to just "slash" the price everytime it drops, haha. I can't seem to keep up with newegg.... anyway, I'll update again. Thanks.
