I'd jump on this if i had an older burner, but not worth the $$$ to upgrade from the 3520. Great price for a newer burner

AHHHH

this is the worst part about ordering stuff from newegg, its waiting a week for it to get here, then to have to ship it back because its DOA....
1 week for it to get back to them, another 1 for them to get it back to me...
there goes my free shipping.

I know, I bought it for 45.99 this morning. I didn't think it was going to go any lower then that. This thing is almost as cheap as a regular cd-room now.

They are't too different from each other.

This is so hot though I'm thinking of buying a 2nd burner to copy 2 discs at a time.

Considering a black DVDROM drive is $26 at newegg I figure anyone buying a new computer might as well spend an extra $15 to have the ability to burn 2 discs, and you get a free cdwallet.

Me too but at that price for a DL burner, I decided to go for it. Now I can move my other single layer to do the ripping and retire my LiteOn DVD-rom drive. :)

well i got in on that OM deal last year where it was the mad dog which was really a nec 2500. Well office max paid me $20 for that drive. Hahaha i went in the store with a 20 off coupon from office depot and by some luck they applied the coupon twice and gave me a $40 rebate form. I wasnt expecting the rebate but i got it. I ended up paying 19.99 at the store, and recieving the $40 rebate. Well now its time for an update, and I just purchased it. I've heard great reviews. Im aleady burning DVDs in ten minutes time. With this 16X i wonder what my times going to be. Very good price for this drive

I like the Pioneer drive better, though it costs about $8 more after shipping. I seem to have better luck with it burning pretty much any DVDR blank that I can get my hands on while my friend's 3520 (and former 2500A) is really picky about media. Many el-cheapo discs that I can burn just fine won't on the NEC drives, and some that I can burn fine only works at a slower speed on the NEC. Hopefully the 3540 is better with media compatibility.

One thing of concern is that Newegg lists the Pioneer as "warranted through manufacturer only." I don't know if Pioneer will warranty a bare drive for an end user.

lol, geez, I just bought the 3520A last week for $42.99 with free shipping, and now I just placed an order for the 3540A for $43.99 with free shipping AND a cheapo cd wallet. How low can they go? I just might need to replace the optical drives in all my computers with these NEC burners. XD

It looks like at Monarch, you're forced to get Nero 6.3 with OEM drives. See the dropdown just above the warranty option. If you don't select to buy Nero, the only other option says "Required if OEM drive is selected". I haven't tried going through checkout without Nero selected. Anyone?
