I'd prefer NON-NEC fanboy reponses :)

You know, I have not looked at pioneer drives in a while, but if its got that slot load style front, that might pretty much win my heart over, lol. It just looks so cool.

So did I. But they aren't too different I don't think. With the latest firmware the 3520 can use DVD-RW DL discs, not that they are exactly common.

I love it. Hot deal = must buy...oh, does it WORK? LOL. :D

Edit: Is there any media available, let alone affordable, that you can even TEST the 3540's capabilities with?

I know this is great deal plus I don't even own a dvd burner. But they don't have beige? Only silver and black. I know, who cares! Grab some beige paint or now is the time to get a black case :) Thanks OP!!

Well AT seems to think the NEC is better.........

those are primarily made up of the fanboys that he's referring to. ; )

Darn this price drop, I just got the 3520 for $42 because I didn't want to pay the extra $16. :(

I haven't read reviews, but specs have shown increases in DL write speed which isn't that big of a deal (considering DL is still very expensive). However the biggest assets I did notice would be increased read speeds over different types of media.

Bought my first burner at Fry's Electronics for $999 + tax. It didn't even last two years.

You know, I ran across those read speed comparisons somewhere online but I didnt save it. There are more differences between the burners than I have listed. I'll see if I can dig em up.

I'm still using a 2.4x hp 200i finaly caved and bought this thing but in silver was only a dollar more. Bought the hp a couple of years ago for 200 and that was a deal back then at OM at a friends and family sale.

Happy with my ND-2500, since DL media is silly expensive.

Does a native SATA connection really do anything useful for optical drives? Seems to me like SATA only makes the OS install a potential PITA. Sure the IDE cable is a lot fatter, but a little bit of the old cable oragami can usually tidy it up quite nicely.

SATA does nothing for optical drives except make them more expensive.
