I heard that that Goodyear Plant pumps over $1 Billion a year into the local economy.

No actually Tyler is a plant they would like to shut down. This is the whole sticking point, the Union wants Goodyear to guarantee no plant closures. They will guarantee all but two, one they won't Guarantee is the Tyler plant.

As for them being on the verge of bankruptcy? They have had a rough couple of years and their healthcare and pension plans a killing them, but they arent anywhere near bankruptcy. Analysts wouldnt be telling people to buy or hold if they were on the "verge". They can stem off any bankruptcy by cutting costs, which they are trying. Yes if they continue on their current path bankruptcy will occur, but not within the year, but within a few.

The Union workers a morons. If they dont allow Goodyear to cut costs, and Goodyear goes into bankruptcy restructuring, they will lose jobs, all of their pensions and healthcare.

I have heard similar talk. They bulked up production here all year and they have a warehouse full of tires. They are in this for the long haul.

Is there not? The workers deserve what the market pays them. If they don't like it, they have serveral options. They can ask for a raise, try to get promoted, or find other jobs. Striking just costs the company money and if they aren't careful, they could all end up out of work.

In my mind there was a purpose in unions. Jobs *do* need to be safe. Employers *do* need to treat their employees as human. Workers, however, do not have a right to a job and they do not have a right to anything from the company. Don't like it? Quit. The company should be able to just get rid of anyone who refuses to come to work.

As for anyone who damages company property, well, they need to be jailed like the criminals that they are.

Of course, this is all just my opinion, and I'm certainly open to any reasonable arguments. Of course, since Dave disagrees with me, I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track.
