And Goodyear is going to file for bankruptcy anyway. I doubt they care about the union right now. I have been told it's a waste of time at this point to picket.

Goodyear is in no way going to file for bankruptcy anytime soon, they are how wanting to close down the plant in Tyler.

If they close a plant, it won't be Tyler.
We went through this whole thing a year back. They restructured.
They fired all the upper management, and replaced them with corporate guys who came in and turned the place around.
All things being considered, Goodyear is not doing well.
And I have heard a few things from someone I trust, as he is always right, that Goodyear is on the verge.

This will be a bad thing for Tyler,TX.
I heard that that Goodyear Plant pumps over $1 Billion a year into the local economy.
Thats a lot of $$$ for a town of only 90,000 !

Ha ha, yes, it would be very very bad for the city if the plant were to shut down.

No actually Tyler is a plant they would like to shut down. This is the whole sticking point, the Union wants Goodyear to guarantee no plant closures. They will guarantee all but two, one they won't Guarantee is the Tyler plant.

As for them being on the verge of bankruptcy? They have had a rough couple of years and their healthcare and pension plans a killing them, but they arent anywhere near bankruptcy. Analysts wouldnt be telling people to buy or hold if they were on the "verge". They can stem off any bankruptcy by cutting costs, which they are trying. Yes if they continue on their current path bankruptcy will occur, but not within the year, but within a few.

The Union workers a morons. If they dont allow Goodyear to cut costs, and Goodyear goes into bankruptcy restructuring, they will lose jobs, all of their pensions and healthcare.

That would be funny in an ironic kinda way.

I have heard similar talk. They bulked up production here all year and they have a warehouse full of tires. They are in this for the long haul.

Obviously the talk you guys have heard is flat out wrong.

The Goodyear plant in Tyler still needs further upgrades, and with Goodyear wanting to cut $1billion+ in costs, they are wanting to shut it down.

They should just start making them in China.

Where do those union guys get off demanding more pay? All the execs just take whatever Goodyear offers them, right?

There's a difference in a rightful demand of pay and extortion.

Okay define it and we can see if the employees are being unreasonable.

My company is asking for big-time concessions from the workers, but the CEO paid his wife 60 million last year. I wonder what she did for that money?

Is there not? The workers deserve what the market pays them. If they don't like it, they have serveral options. They can ask for a raise, try to get promoted, or find other jobs. Striking just costs the company money and if they aren't careful, they could all end up out of work.

In my mind there was a purpose in unions. Jobs *do* need to be safe. Employers *do* need to treat their employees as human. Workers, however, do not have a right to a job and they do not have a right to anything from the company. Don't like it? Quit. The company should be able to just get rid of anyone who refuses to come to work.

As for anyone who damages company property, well, they need to be jailed like the criminals that they are.

Of course, this is all just my opinion, and I'm certainly open to any reasonable arguments. Of course, since Dave disagrees with me, I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track.
