Army Reserve MP here and let me give you a few pointers. First off, always do the right thing. If you forget to do the right thing, do the next best right thing and just fess up. Almost lost a weekend pass because I ate a candy bar at the PX one time. Myself and my battle buddy fessed up for it because the cashiers will rat you out to the drills anyway. When we got back from PX and everyone was told to dump their bags out, candy bars galore and no one fessed up like we did. We got our pass after an ass chewing session and everyone else's got canceled. Second, don't do anything to attract attention to yourself, that's bad karma man. Lay low, do what you're supposed to and study your smart book front to back and memorize just about everything in it, not just what you're gonna cover that day because sometimes there's spare time for training and it helps to know what the task requirements are ahead of time. Third, volunteer occasionally, not all the time. Sometimes, even volunteer for the $hit jobs that no one else is volunteering for because 9 times out of 10, those pay off big with the drills. Don't be a suck up though by always raising your hand when asked. Fourth, never, ever listen to your walkman/CD-player too loud and forget to listen for drills coming into your bay. Was jamming to some Chili Peppers shining my boots in about week 13 and saw two shiny boots in my peripheral vision. Got my ass smoked for listening to my music too loud. Fifth, don't take any porn or contraband with you in hopes of hiding it. If you do get some porn in somehow, make sure you stuff it in one of your "personal letters" from mom, dad, girlfriend, etc. They usually can't look at your personal mail in your wall locker, but everything else is fair game and they will look EVERYWHERE, trust me. A misplaced picture of Asia Carrera showed up once in my wall locker by accident, hidden in the bottom of my travel kit and I got busted big time, by a female drill sergeant no less. Well, that's about all the practical knowledge I can impart to you short of ruining the experience. Unfortunately I went to Fort McClellan, AL when that was still the MP school in the Army, so can't say much about Ft. Lostinthewoods. BTW, what unit you joining and where are they out of?

PS-if there's a guy with $hit breath in your training class, donate some hygiene products to him. If a guy keeps you awake at night crying (literally) about leaving his fiance for 4+ months and mentions in passing that he wants to die, make sure you and the other fellas collect up enough shoe laces to make a nice hanging rope for him. Show those weenies the love they deserve and definitely, definitely don't be one of 'em.

Well, get yourself ready for the possibility of deployment and putting school and/or work on hold for up to two years. I'm well into my second year of deployment as an MP right now, starting back on 9/11/01. As an MP, you WILL deploy, CONUS or OCONUS, you will be called upon for the various missions world wide at some point. Iraq is virtually one big MP mission now and many, many MP units are over there or on their way over there for that mission. Don't be naive and think that you won't have to earn your GI Bill, College Loan Repayment and anything else you've signed up for.

Heh, the 814th Mp company was at Ft Hood last year, and is in the middle east right now. I picked them and the highly deployable job for a reason :p

Well, sounds like you got it all worked out then. Glad to hear that. I'm tired of hearing my younger soldiers bitch, piss and moan about delaying their college or their careers for this deployment. You will have good times on deployment, but please, be safe. We just had one MP from our Battalion get killed in an ammunition explosion a few weeks ago. My brother is an Active Duty infantryman and had to carry a soldier out of battle after he took a fatal gunshot to the stomach. My bro is due home next week and not a moment too soon. Just get yourself mentally prepared for the full range of possibilities. With that, good luck, give 'em hell and graduate with honors. HOOAH!

You seem to have the right attitude and should do quite well. Take Rogue's thoughtful advice and good luck to you. It'll all go quick and before you know it, you'll graduate a Military Policeman. MPs are a very professional, valuable component of the U.S. Army.

My recruiter picks me up tonight at 6:30 and Im gonna head to the hotel. I report in at 6 tomorrow, a quick physical, then I get on a plane, and off to Missouri for about 18 weeks. :p

18 weeks of fun of course. Guns, close combat, etc :p Im going in as a 95b, Military Police. Reserves for now while I do some college, but the goal is to go active with a different job in a year or two.

good luck but i still don't understand the people that decide to join any military service branch especially with the danger that comes with that kind of job consider how many wars we seems to initate and the pay is not alot comparing to the danger of getting shot, taken as pow or even getting killed by enemy of friendly fire(blue on blue)

Pride for your country. Patriotism. You live in this country free of (most) of the evils of the world because of the proud an honorable men and women who served in our military. It's those people who risk their lives that grant you that freedom.

Good luck Bill, do us proud. I may be heading to BT myself in a couple months, still deciding on that though.
I don't buy that. We've certainly toppled monsters abroad before, but America itself hasn't faced a direct threat to our independence in a long time.

That said, there are other advantages to joining the military besides serving your nation or the shoddy pay. You can also get up to $50,000 for college, there's a large sign-up bonus, and the military offers you quite a bit of education.

TallBill, congratulations on entering our nation's armed forces. I salute you. Best of luck, and godspeed to you.
