She said yes!

Like there was ever any question. ;)

We did the rerun of our first date. Went to the little Mom & Pop place, then to the bowling alley. I headed for this city park that is full of flowers, beautiful trees, and has a waterfall that is about 75 feet or more tall. It is beautiful. When we got there she said "we didn't come here on our first date." I said I knew that but I wanted to start a new tradition. We walked through the park until we came to the waterfall, which by the way is lit up at night, and that is when I dropped to one knee. Told her how much she meant to me, not going into detail here, and asked her.

Best night of my life.

you did better than I did. I proposed at a national park, in a similiar settings as your. When I popped the question, I went to one knee with her facing the other way,so it would be a suprose when she turned back around. She started reading a info plaque and it was like 5 minutes till she turned around :/ THere was a couple that started giggling that was walking by.

Had lunch with her Dad. Asked for his blessing....he got all choked up, started crying, and told me I had it then gave me a big long and a little uncomfortable hug

Wait until Mom finds out that you are taking her little girl. You will need a towell and the jaws of life.

Also, the Dad is happy; he gets his phone line back.:p

When I proposed I really had no idea what she'd say. And I had already decided before even dating her that if I got married it would be with her or nobody.

Prenup
Sorry, don't believe in that. To me that says you think there is a chance the marriage will not work out. If that is the way someone feels then they shouldn't be getting married in the first place.

Besides, neither of us have that much. What is she going to take, my Adidas?

Prenup isn't for now, it's for then.
What happens when you buy a house together, she leaves you, and takes the kids AND the house AND your car, and leaves you with nothing?
I assume that you do want to have a house/car/kids in the future?
I refuse to go into this with thoughts that it could fail. In my mind if you have those kind of questions in your head then you aren't ready to get married.

Already own a house, already have cars, no kids yet though. If something were to happen and we split up then so be it

I agree. And I have substantially more to lose than my husband as far as assets go.

Yeah, but since you're a woman you have nothing to worry about.

Congrats, man!

Don't sweat the folks advising a prenup, its just bad experiences have made them cautious. That whole thing is a decision only you can make. :)

Besides, if I posted here and said:

"I just proposed to my girlfriend and she said yes! We are both 20 and sophmores at University. She's from Latin America and I'm Canadian and we are going to live in Canada. I'm not sure what my career is going to be, but we'll figure that out later."

I would be SHREDDED alive as the stupidest, most foolish sonofab even to post on AT.

And yet 9 years after that exact situation we are happily married with 2 great kids, the house, career, etc. It CAN work. It doesn't always or even often, but it CAN if you are both open, commited, unselfish, and share common goals and interests.

Always put her first, the kids second, and yourself third. Career, money, in-laws, etc etc all come in way below that.

Best of luck!

sniff sniff

I'll be the weird guy in the back that no one knows, who is whimpering noticeably throughout the service. ;)

What a great thread!! I am really happy for you man, and I hope that just one of us can keep the flame going for a lifetime. I am on 10 years of being married, and I really feel that I made a mistake. Make sure you do special things to keep that love and affection going, I really wish I could go back and do it all over again.

Again, congrats!!!!
