Hey if I lived in a rural area I'd love to have an assault rifle because they are cool to shoot but for home defense, a pistol would more than suffice. The problem with allowing assault rifles is that it would flood the market with them allowing criminals easier access to them than if it was cost prohibitive like having to buy imported illegal Assault Rifles from some criminal org..

One could make the same argument about anything used in crime. Getaways would be much harder if you banned cars.

This is my feeling about the situation, I'd prefer that my fat drunk ass neighbor didn't own one. Unfortunately he has the same right as a paramilitary whack job like winnar or Butterbean so if they can own one drunk fat ass can own one and that's scarier to me than being home invaded.

Do you care if he owns a shotgun? A pistol? Those could kill you dead, too.

This is what most people fail to understand about "assault weapons" vs average hunting weapons.

The term "assault weapon" mainly descibes the look of a weapon not the actual function.

Take any basic hunting semi auto hunting weapon and put a different stock and forgrip on it and it would be classified as an "assault weapon".

Full auto rifles are already near impossible to own for the average citizen.

You know what is really funny? I didn't think much about gun rights or ownership, although I always supported them in every way. In principle I was in support of people to own guns.

Then I got robbed while I was sleeping, in my house (they came in, took like 10K worth of shit while I was sleeping and I was too stupid to realize what dog was telling me). Then a huge power outage that crippled my city and I saw how desparate people and criminals behave.

That will change your thinking real quick. When I thought that my only recourse was to throw a flashlight or a knife my mindset changed.

All of my property, my duty to protect, all rendered useless by not having a firearm. I'm thankful that I am now armed to the teeth and my neighbors are as well.

Thankfully the ARs have really good range and high capacity. I was never really such a "gunnut" until I realized I had no means to protect myself and the ones I am responsible for. That day after where I realized I had no way of protecting what was mine and the people I'm responsible for changed me forever. I guess you have to feel and go through it that to understand.
