I just don't understand you. You keep telling us not to worry, no one is going to steal our guns, then you go and support legislation that is halfway there. I feel like the rapist is telling me that he's going to be gentle, so there's nothing to worry about.

Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Redneck?

Here is a little test that will help you decide.

The answer can be found by posing the following question:

I suppose I'm right there in between demo and repub.

I shoot him in the leg, then call 911.

isn't that what most sane people would do in this country.. anymore?
never... EVER... aim to wound.

He'd probably sue you for every penny you ever have, and some far-left judge would probably give it to him.

1) Be sincere, aim center mass, and shoot two well-aimed shots in his chest (add more if he continues to come toward you).
2) Ensure your family and everyone in the area is OK.
3) Keep your weapon trained on him from 6 to 10 ft away.
4) Call 911 to report the attack.

So, you need more than a handgun for this?

I can't imagine a legitimate need for a weapon in excess of a handgun's power for self defense.

Handgun cartridges are very ineffective at incapacitating targets quickly. Don't watch so many movies.

Have you ever shot a man?

If you answer yes, i'll know you're lying.

A 9mm is going to incapacitate any target pretty damn fast, so stop watching movies where they keep on going after multiple gunshots, in real life, if you're hit you're going to go down.

Carrying anything larger than a 9mm is daft, it has no greater stopping power against an assailant and it won't do much against the invisible zombies you imagine are going to come after you.

What is it with people and guns in this country? Yes, I know, it's a right.

I'm with you. I don't get it. It's like you're defending a body part. I just don't get the fanatacism revolving around guns.

Change the assault to the 1st amendment and tell us your opinion on that. It is only speech right? Well guns are a primary defense against the tyranny of govt and defense against criminals. Without the gun you can toss out the rest of your rights.

Right, because we constantly take up arms against the government. That didn't work out so well in 1863...

But it worked great in 1774

In this day and age, handguns aren't state of the art weapons, they are pea shooter compared to the current state of the art weapons.

If the intention of the constitution was that everyone was going to have a chance against the government, you'll need jets and missiles to defend yourselves. I've made this argument before and someone said that then the armed forces would be with the people in which case the people really don't need shit to defend themselves with.

If it's for home defense it's ridiculous, if i lived in a place where i needed a gun to replace the cuddly bear i slept with as a child i would move right the fuck out of that place because it's obviously kinda like downtown Fallujah. Hell i've lived in Brixton and i didn't feel a need to have a gun.

Now, lets go over this "only guns will be illegal guns" idiocy... Take a wild guess where the overwhelming majority of "illegal guns" come from... If you steal a gun, file off the serial number you have an illegal gun. So your legally purchased firearm might be an illegal gun today if you, kinda lost track of it somewhere or didn't keep it disassembled with the active parts in a gun safe and YOU are responsible for that.

The TRUTH is that boys and their toys are being parted and everyone is going waaaaaahhh.

It's fucking pathetic.

.223 round has less penetrating power indoors then most handgun rounds. This round is used in the majority of AR-15s.

No it doesn't, it's a smaller round with a LOT more penetrating power than any handgun round that i know of.

It may come as a surprise to you, but not all people are as ignorant as you are, some people actually know some things about the history, laws and constitutions of other countries.

I am, however, this thread wasn't about UK restrictions on guns but rather on US restrictions on assault rifles.

If you want to, i'm willing to let you in on a little secret though, the proposals that you read the headlines of in this forum, not ONE of them have even been considered in the Parlament.

Name one fucked up UK right (that differs from any other developed nations rights) and i'll discuss it with you.

Your freedom of speech is appalling.
Your country uses spy drones to spy on citizens.
You are on CCTV hundreds of times a day.

For the record, I do not own a firearm. And ericlp fails at being a troll.

Most game-hunting rounds and higher power/caliber bullets will go through vests and armor. If I owned a gun I probably wouldn't buy a specifically AP round but that's besides the point.

Also, you should be happy to know that <0.01% of gun crimes are committed with "assault rifles". If you want to cut down on gun crime, ban handguns. They're used in over 50% of violent gun crimes according to the FBI. (Troll logic FTL)

Again, I don't own a gun but I think AWB and other such legislation has no practical value. And Holder is an idiot for suggesting it would have an effect on ILLEGAL arms traffic to Mexico. Uh yes, let's make more laws to stop ILLEGAL trafficking!

Edit: Missed last part of post, meant to indicate that the appropriate solution would be better border security.

Did I read it? Sure. Here is a quote from the drone article.

"However, their use is likely to further fuel concerns about our march towards a Big Brother state. Britain already has more CCTV cameras than the rest of Europe put together."

Pretty damning.

As far a as libel laws, the burden of proof is on the defendant. Why do I know more about your country than you?

Now back to assault weapons...we dont need a mod smackdown.

Did I read it? Sure. Here is a quote from the drone article.

"However, their use is likely to further fuel concerns about our march towards a Big Brother state. Britain already has more CCTV cameras than the rest of Europe put together."

Pretty damning.

You do realise that those cameras are for protecting private property and has nothing what so ever to do with the government?

The drone article could have been from The Onion.

You guys can't carry KNIVES on the train. Ok? KNIVES. If I have a concealed carry permit I can bring my pistol with me on the public trains. MY GUN. Not some little sharp object, a full blown pistol, any pistol I like.
Guess which headline I remember the most when reading the Times this summer when I was in the UK? Something about "349 Knives confiscated from train riders". Clearly they can't catch them all-- later that week in another newspaper "8 Robberies on the Underground at Knife in the past week".

You know how many shootings we've had on our public trains since we enacted the concealed carry law? ZERO. Know what would keep the 16 year old kids from trying to rob people at knifepoint? People with concealed carry permits.

See the wiki article on gun laws for examples of how gun control [ban] laws have lead to _increases_ in gun-related violence the next year. In DC gun-crime shot up ~30%. In another case, it was something like 60%.

Those laws clearly don't work.
