Well that's it I'm quitting my job, spent 3 hours in traffic again

At least an hour each way but on a bad day it can take as long as 3 hours one way.

I'm hoping to put in my two weeks on Monday if things pan out the way I'm hoping they will.

Just started a 3 month contract about 40 miles from my home, catch is those 40 miles are via I-95 in Connecticut (New Haven to Stamford)... takes 90 minutes in the AM & 45-60 in the PM... two weeks in & it already really sucks!

wow, you're in the same situation I'm in. spending that much time in traffic really sucks

Real estate near my job is almost 2 or 3 times higher

In other words, you'd have a smaller house for the same money. I'd take the shorter commute. You don't visit friends & family near as much as you commute to work. Unless you saddle one of your family with baby sitting duty, like so many people do these days.

I'd consider that if I really liked my job. Then there's just a lot more traffic on that side of town anyway, it takes 15-20 minutes just to get in and out of the malls around there.

Didnt you just get a promotion and a raise?

jC

not really a promotion, my old department was outsourced and I got shifted over to a new group. I tried like hell to get them to move me to a closer office (there's quite a few near my house) but they refused so now I gotta get the hell out

I'm out in the woods about 25 minutes from anywhere, and my current job is right there on edge of anywhere. We are thinking about moving up nearer to somewhere, but that will cost us a pretty penny.

my commute is about 1 hour, 15-20 minutes driving to train station and then a 40-45 minute ride into the Loop (downtown chicago, coming from burbs). Mileage wise, it's only 16 miles away, but anyone can tell you that parking in Chicago is the big killer. I drove in last week and parked my car at 8:30 AM. I picked it up at 6:30 PM and the bill was $27 😱. Needless to say, I won't be driving into work anytime soon unless my company pays for it during emergencies and such.

The drive to downtown is about 1-1:30 on weekdays, but it all depends on what time you get on the "expressway"

Mine is about usually about one hour each way. I plan on moving closer in a few months though.

yeah that's definitely the way to go if possible. When I think about all the time I lost in traffic in just one year it makes me want to cry. This month alone I spent about an average of 5 hours per day in traffic mutliply that by 11 and that comes out to 55 hours. That's 55 hours I could have been playing video games, sleeping, making love, reading, scratching my head, etc...

Yeah. On bad days, I can be stuck in traffic for about 2 hours. On good days, it can be as fast as 30 minutes to work though. Since I work in Santa Monica, California, moving closer would mean I also get to live in a really cool city. 🙂
