Wow, you remind me of alkehmyst quite a bit. It's not my mother's personal business, it's a family problem that I was looking for some support about. You don't have to give any sympathy, no one does, but there's no reason to act the way you are, so whatever your problem is vent it elsewhere.

Unemployment is not leeching off the gov't FYI.
We all pay unemployment insurance and that is what it is, insurance in case something like this happens.
Anyway, good luck Sabot. I don't know about up north but I do know the US is getting much better. In my company, we just hired 30 new investment bankers last month so they are expecting positive things over the next year.

OK. Seriously how old are you? Your mother is going to have hard times throughout her life. We all do. Basing your life decisions on your mothers problems isn't the answer. Your mom has had 52 years to make the decisions that decide her future. You said this has happened three times in the past five years. That would be my first hint and I would be preparing myself for a career change in case it happened again.

Don't even get me started about people filing for unemployment and living of the govt.
Big corporations take WAAAAAAY more welfare, subsidies and bailout money than the people like Sabot & his mom (whom the whole system is DESIGNED FOR). Check out the facts and figures that Michael Moore lays down in Downsize This!.
Then they take that govt. cheese and open up plants in Singapore and lay off entire factories. It's been going on since the 80's.
Like they said, keep your motherf%&kin' chin up Sabot man. Take the unemployment if you need to and don't feel bad about it. Use that money to get by while y'all find another way if you have to. The reason you don't need to feel bad about it is if y'all take that cash while you need it, and she scores a much better job, y'all will be paying it back when you get bumped up into higher tax brackets.

I've been unemployed on several occasions. I have walked to work. I have lived without electricity. I have eaten nothing but rice and ramen noodles for a few months. I have had a business fail that I put blood sweat and tears into not to mention every dime I had and a couple I didn't. I left for boot camp the day my parents filed for bankruptcy (lost their house also) due to my mom's illness (My dad told me to live my own life). Plus a lot more sh!t I don't care to list. They are fine now and so am I.
It has happened to me.
Assuming I'm one of the children you speak of I will tell you that I am one of the few people here with "out of basement" experience.
