Welders

Nocturnal

Ok, what kind of strength would I need for say welding piping for a muffler, cutting and pasting quarter panels off other cars onto another car, etc etc.

I want a mig, but how much power would I need? Do I need those $2500.00 + welders or do those $600.00 do the job?

TIA

even a mini mig would do you: I have a 50 amp mini that does all of the above. Make sure you use solid core wire, and shielding gas.

I weld with a Lincoln Weldpack 100 on a weekly basis, this is a 120V wire feed welder that can easily be converted to MIG with a $90 MIG kit.
(About $225 at Home Depot)
This welder easily welds exhaust systems and has a low enough amperage to weld thin sheetmetal panels without a lot of heat distortion, (Maximum penetration is one quarter inch) naturally if you are going to weld sheetmetal on a daily basis, the only route to go is TIG welding, extremely low heat and excellent penetration.

Rogers recommendation is a good one.
I use a $6,000 Lincoln Power Wave at work everyday.
If you've never welded you will need practice, especially if your going to be doing thin mettal body work.
Nothing worse than spending $$$ on a new body panel then proceeding to blast various and sundry holes in it.

Thanks, a friend and I bought the one above the 100 kit, it was around $350.00. He is going to be practicing with it today.

Thanks for the advice.
