And this is the first year you ever saw an increase?

Me directly? Yes, actually. Or anyone here for a very long time.

They showed a chart of health care costs from 2000-2010, and estimates for 2010-2020. The 2010-2020 estimate is 2.5x the increase from 2000-2010, 20% of which is the excise tax on people with good health care plans.

Premiums have gone up and up and up for years now spidey. Stop blaming the black man. What is the evil black man going to do about our dental premiums and $1000 a year limits?!? huff huff Is obamacare responsible for my dental going up again this year?

I suppose I can blame the black man for cutting my health care savings plan which I now blow through in 6 to 8 months, just as can any family who has a member with a chronic illness. That money which people in greatest need will be cut in half. Have a diabetic in the family? Someone with CF? Congrats. You are screwed.

Nice.

Your FSA? If health care was right there wouldn't ever be a need for FSA's. The fact that people even need FSA's show how fucked up the system is.

Common sense says when you force an insurance company to pay more money out (no maximums, zero copay for preventative stuff, 26 year old "kids" on parents family plan) premiums will go up.

And that's exactly what has happened. It's common sense.

perhaps insurers are forced to be less wasteful, more efficient with costs?

common sense allows one to look at these factors from all angles.

tunnel vision instigated by the perverted ravings of idealogues does not.

LOL. And the republican stone wall obviously had nothing to do with it.

Do you not understand fillibuster proof majority in the senate and almost 2/3rds in house? There was not a single thing republicans could have done to stop anything the democrats wanted.

There's an election coming in just 13 days. The entire populace needs to understand how damaging this law is to their health care.

no i understand, but ranting and raving by both sides isn't going to spread the word, it's just going to turn people off to politics even more than they already are.

So you're saying the democrats should always vote down party lines?

So something that hasn't taken effect raised your rates 42%

Just like gas prices going up when there is a threat of a hurricane in the Gulf.

It never has to do with opportunity and greed!

How do you explain non-profit health plans, such as Blue Cross, who are required to have 0 profit every year, increasing their rates by double digit figures, every year?

You can't blame that one on greed (even though Obama did in his campaign)

The dems plan did not address the root causes of the rising prices, and they know full well why it didnt. Because they arent out to fix the system, only to control it. And they will use whatever scare tactics neccesary to do so.

All rate increases can be blamed on republicans cutting out the public option. Discuss.

over 50% of medical expenditures are from governmental sources. iirc, that's been going up quite a lot on a per capita (not per covered person) basis as well.

BCBS hasn't been non-profit in years. it's mostly a bunch of for-profit insurance companies that license the name. WellPoint is the largest and is publicly traded. HCSC is the largest BCBS "member" that isn't investor-owned. it's the 4th largest medical insurance company in the country. it's a mutual, so it's owned by the premium-payers.

and non-profit doesn't mean they can't make significant money or pay competitive C-level compensation.

I should have been more specific. The state level orgs, such as "Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan" and "BCBS of California" (the one Obama mentioned by name) along with 30+ others, are in fact non-profit. But yeah, some of the execs at these orgs have excessive compensation for a non profit, but some states have capped that.
