OK so this is many years later, but I am so happy to hear other folks have experienced this (!)

I still experience it.

If you believe the Earth is flat and find another person that also believes the Earth is flat that doesn't mean the Earth is flat. Finding out that other people experience the same placebo effect as you doesn't make it real.

Without performing a blind test study it's impossible to really know if you're really experiencing anything at all. Humans are notoriously unreliable at self-diagnosis, so just going by what you feel or what you think you feel is essentially worthless.

There's people convinced they're sensitive to electromagnetic fields and waves from electrical equipment and things like cell towers and wifi transceivers. None of these people have - to my knowledge - ever been able to correctly identify if a piece of equipment was on or off in a properly conducted scientific study.

I don't doubt that they're suffering of something, but technology is not the root cause. And something similar may be going on here.

I’m going to double resurrect this zombie thread. A google search of “I can feel when I’ve taken Tylenol” lead me here. I’m glad there are two others out there. I would describe the feeling as similar to when you “taste” something when breathing in or out through your nose (using olfactory senses). It’s like my brain can taste the Tylenol. It’s a weird feeling. It’s kind of a heady feel, and is exclusively associated with Tylenol or acetaminophen in general for me. I typically take ibuprofen and also had to switch due to pregnancy. I’ve definitely had the feeling my whole life when taking it.
I feel the exact same thing! But I've never heard of anyone else having this experience! When i try to explain it its like a taste, but at the back of my nose or in the middle of my head or something. Which is weird because we don't have any taste buds there obviously. But there must be something going on since some people definitely feel this! And its not placebo, i can definitely tell when i have taken acetaminophen because of this! Maybe one day we will know why this happens!

i shall reply to the renecro and add ...
there are lots of meds that can cause a metallic taste

Acetaminophen obviously can have some side effects that people can detect just like any other medication can have side effects.

But it's not a metallic taste, as a matter of fact its not a taste at all given that it's not felt on the tongue! Im sure there is a scientific explanation however.

this thread is like an old friend

tylenol works for me and doesn't give any weird immediate "feeling" side effects, but between that and ibuprofen i think i gave myself a lot of long-lasting digestive problems a few years ago

so now i reallllly cut back and the problems have seemed to recede

I have Tylenol. I NEVER take it. I have ibuprofen, I have naproxen, I never take them. I have vicodin, I never take it. I have all manner of alcohol. I rarely touch it. I could go on, but won't.

Oh, I do drink coffee. If I don't, I don't miss it.

I'm just on a natural high.

I rarely have Tylenol and other similar drugs but I'll have them once in a while if I feel they'll help me. These drugs are hard on the stomach so not good to overdo it but once in a while is probably fine.

Well, that's just it. My understanding is that ibuprofen takes a while (i.e. you have to take it for a few days) before it works and before that happens I have stomach issues that I can't tolerate and I stop taking it. I don't remember ever thinking that I benefited from taking ibuprofen. So, I switched to naproxen, which is said to be similar drug. I think I maybe tolerated it better but again, wasn't aware of having benefitted from taking it. I have both in my fridge... just in case. Tylenol? I don't remember ever thinking that I was glad I had some or had taken any! EVER! But I have a big full bottle of that in the fridge too, I bought it at the beginning of the pandemic just in case I needed it, and people said I might. Fortunately, I didn't.

the only reason i take tylenol (well, excedrin migraine) is when i get splitting headaches that won't go away after a day or two

i used to be able to get stronger stuff for the few times a year i get headaches like this, but not since they cracked down on it

I've NEVER had a headache like that. Not sure I have a brain, brian...

Oh man, count yourself lucky! I got my first migraine at 19 & thought I was dying, no joke. I'm fortunate now that my food allergy medicine keeps them to a minimum, but they're just absolutely awful to go through. Light physically hurts you, you get tunnel vision, you feel like you're gonna barf (and sometimes you do!), and your head pounds so much that you literally can't focus on anything else, it's just an all-consuming experience. REALLY rotten!

I'm with you, I have to take sumatriptan when I get them. That fixes them fast. Originally I started taking 100mg but it made by neck feel sore and I'd feel rotten in a different way, but found that 50mg worked just as well without the side effects.

Why did you have to do that to my brain. I'll never be able to un-hear this :p
I was driving this girl to a movie in like 2000....remember hearing that on the radio. My favorite humor is when I ask a question with the wrong assumption that I already know the correct answer to....

So, jokingly, I asked, "Why does he keep saying Tylenol is all we are?" She knew I knew what he was really saying, so she just rolled her eyes at me....but I was proud of that. (obviously)

well supposedly the human brain feels no pain

but when they cut open a skull to take a piece of the brain out, then plaster it back up, that can cause some mild discomfort

IIRC, my worst headache was nothing to complain about and I have never considered taking anything for one of my quite rare headaches.

I'm not aware Tylenol causes GI problems? But it is relatively easy to cause overdoses or liver damage and is more dangerous than most people realize:

There was also a study in the past year that concluded that taking Acetaminophen increases the likelihood that you'll take more risks by about 25%.

I really don't know what the definition of risk taking is these days.... "going to a gas station at 2am and buying a lottery ticket", "going to a gas station at 2am with no mask", "going to a gas station at 2am with no panties on..."

This is what my experience has been....if I take actual brand name Tylenol, not coated for slow release, I will have that exact same sensation. Where I feel like I am coming down with a head cold. Starts with a metallic feeling in my throat, almost a nausea, but not, swallowing tastes off. These are white with the red wording. Only takes the edge off the headache.

HOWEVER, if it is a generic acetaminophen, and coated (usually blue and red) tablets, absolutely no issues whatsoever. Headache is still lingering.

As a migraine sufferer, I have a scrip for Topamax, I don't like other OTC pain relievers.

So had a fun experience a while back. I'm still fighting a jaw related issue, basically I clench my teeth in my sleep and it causes lot of pain in the jaw. I basically have no cartilage left in the TMJ it's just bone on bone. On days where the pain is really bad I'll usually take something. I was working from home and decided to take 2 Advils and CBD oil, the CBD oil is a 1:1 ratio of CBD and THC. The only one they had in stock at the store near my work when I originally bought it, it was kind of an impulse purchase while I was out for a walk.

So I take both. At some point maybe half an hour or so later, I feel my whole face going numb, and everything on my screen looked like it was popping out. I was basically high. The pain went away. It was incredible.

I will try not to make a habit of that though, but it was the first time I can actually feel a drug like that. The CBD oil alone does not do anything, even with the THC. Advil alone either. But both together, I was riding a unicorn into battle. It was magical.
