Is my ratio good? I weight 112 and i bench press 125 around 8 reps. i'm 5'5 btw. I see from the older post that some people weight like 170s and they claimed that they are only able to do 70s and 100s. i'm like wtf. are we all really weak?

Yes, you're weak, I curl with near your body weight to give you an idea of how whimpy 125lbs bench is. 112lbs! What are you 12yrs old?

when i was your weight, i did that sort of stuff. when i was 125, my max was like 160. your shorter than most, so you have less distance to push the bar. the taller you are, the harder you have to work to lift the weights, but you should be compensated biologically with stronger longer muscles.

they are proabbly much more susceptable to atrophy though.

The longer you work at it, the better it gets. I don't bench for max but am sculpting the bod. I too, curl with over 120 lbs but hey, we're each a bit different. Be encouraged, what you put into it, you'll get out of it!

Well you know, screw this, who needs to lift when everyone have guns now. so let's compare our stats for guns. I can put a round through your body at 500 yards away with just a standard assault rifle with no scopes or any aiming helping tech.

I was just busting his chops a little for starting such a silly thread :) BTW, is it difficult for you to believe I curl with 105lbs and maintain proper form?

Going only by your bodyweight doing 125 X 8 is pretty good. You have a good strength to weight ratio. However, it doesn't mean you can necessarily look down on somebody who weighs 215 and can only bench 225 once or twice, because the fact is that person is still much stronger than you, and as bodyweight increases it seems with many people that their weight doesn't increase quite as much. I've heard of many light guys benching a lot but part of their lightness is their height, and as you grow in height and your arms get longer, your leverage for bench pressing can become less efficient.

I'm half Asian, 5-6 and bench 330 (weigh 198). But of course I'm a freak of nature.

You are benching 9.6% over your weight, which isn't bad. Remember only the top 1%-2% are benching 50% over their weight. I'd place you in the above average group, average = benching your weight.

Maybe in the rest of the world, but here on anandtech most people can bench their own weight like 45 times without even warming up :D

Actually since he's repping 8 at 125, his max would be around 150 (1 rep max calculators available on google for those interested).

I'm Asian, too, and I'm five-foot nine and weigh 155 lbs.
I can usually bench two sets of 175 lbs of 8 reps each. I've been working out hard for about a year now and worked out previously before this.

Your ratio is fine. That doesn't really matter anyway, everyone is different and we're all at different levels of working out. Just do what you can and keep it up. Happy lifting!

I don't know if that applies to your weight but benching 100% of your weight is a good start. Just for comparison - I've been working out over 4 years now and I bench around 150% of my body weight. I weigh 190 and I can do 8 reps of 260.
