Weightlifters...

Ever done an intense weight lifting session (like arms/triceps/biceps) and still felt it over a week later? (not as bad, but still felt the aching).

eat more protein and sleep more. unless you are arnold sized, you should recover after 4-5 days max. unless the workout was way out of the ordinary for you.

"Fair weather" weightlifter.. most likely..

You know the type.. those guys that go in the gym on Friday afternoon.. they'll work biceps and triceps really hard.. you know who you are.. you gotta get those arms pumped up to 14", to fit into your small, tight Under Armor shirt before you go out to the teenie bopper club later that night..

can't have those sleeves loose, right 😉

I've recovered no problem. Its just still a tiny bit tender. I would say I recovered about 5 days after the work out.... but I can still stretch the arm in such a way where I feel a little bit of achyness...

thats not intense

it becomes intense when you puke 10 minutes after you stopped lifting.

Yea I remember those workouts... usually when a friend of mine would tell me to hurry my ass up, and I'd rush through my last few sets. A minute later I'd stumble outside feeling sick as could be and puking. Ten minutes later, I'd feel great 🙂

Of course. If i have an insane workout, or workout after long hiatus I usually get sore for quite a few days. Once I'm back in the swing, recovery is usually 1-3 days per that muscle group.

you probably way over did it after not working the muscle out for a long time. a few years ago, my legs were sore for a week the first time i ever did a full leg workout that included squats. you may have pulled/strained/sprained something too. if it's not healed in another week, see a doctor.

that means you busted it up good 😀

Soreness is not an indicator of muscle growth.

correct.

Yes, it is an indicator of muscle damage. Damage is good though, because as those millions of tiny tears and rips repair themselves, your muscles grow.

I guess you could say the presence of soreness is an indicator of microtears in the muscle, which implies future growth, but the absense of soreness does not imply that the workout was not productive or that your muscles aren't growing and recovering from it.

Of course, you could be sore for 2 weeks after a workout and if your diet isn't nailed down, your muscles aren't going to grow at all.

Mostly on the obliques; other than that, only for a few days.

Haha...taht made me laugh out loud. 😀

i raised the weights for upper body too high too soon.

i have had pain and a clicking in my left shouder for almost five days now.

i lowered the weights and took an upper body workout day off.

You are experiencing Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, or DOMS.

Pain usually peaks 48-72 hours following an intense workout which stresses the body in a way it is unaccustomed to, and can take up to around a week to relieve. You will not experience this on a normal basis however if you continue to workout.

Man I had that bad when I first did squats after 6 weeks off. I could hardly walk right 3-4 days later.

Happens usually after I haven't worked out in a long time. Or injury recovery, etc.

My whole body aches from the deadlifts I did last Friday.
