You are experiencing Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, or DOMS.

Pain usually peaks 48-72 hours following an intense workout which stresses the body in a way it is unaccustomed to, and can take up to around a week to relieve. You will not experience this on a normal basis however if you continue to workout.

Man I had that bad when I first did squats after 6 weeks off. I could hardly walk right 3-4 days later.

yeah i had that doing squats too... i was really sore for at least a week, and that was after 2 weeks off (illness and such). though another round of squats made it go away.

that means you busted it up good :D

Soreness is not an indicator of muscle growth.

But you can differentiate between muscle fibre splitting-soreness, and lactic acid-soreness.

Yea it was bad. For a couple of days I could hardly crouch down at all or bend my legs. I was walking around with my knees almost locked. When I did that lifting I took it easy too and didn't even do as much as I felt like I could! As you said another round makes it go away.
