I've used gloves for the past 8 years or so (give or take) with a variety of exercises, and prefer the feeling they give by effectively increasing the diameter of the bar. That, and the wrist wraps can be useful at times as well. I honestly don't care whether someone thinks I'm a "pansy" for using them, as I work out for my own enjoyment, not for the enjoyment of others.

To answer your question--I've always used the Harbinger brand, and have found them to be my personal favorites.

Generally, the only times I won't wear gloves are for deadlifts, squats (or at any other time during my leg routine), and upright rows.

Edit: forgot to mention that for me, as with Red Dawn, gloves do essentially nothing to prevent callous formation. As I previously stated, I use them nowadays simply because I like the feel they give to the bar.

I'm confused a bit. I understand using gloves with deadlifts and upright rows, but what happened to using the gloves on other upper body exercises, especially if you like the feel they present? And gloves while wearing squats? I don't quite understand...

The exercises you mentioned (squats, deadlifts, and upright rows) are actually those during which I don't wear gloves. For most upper body exercises, though, I do.

Got it. My reading comprehension blows today apparently. Sorry about that.
