weekends in college always gets me feeling down

Freshman year was the time of trying to hang out with various crowds.... then the crowd gets smaller and smaller. Sophomore year, I realized I never really found my "group". people I can get along with so I shut everybody out.
Junior year, after coming back from a very fun and exciting summer of traveling, I'm back to my rut and right where I left off. What was I thinking that things would be any different than last year.
What do people do when they never found "their group"?
I can force myself to hang out with these people but it's just not fun to me.

Call up someone you CAN hang out with, and just go walking around the neighborhood. Find a party that looks like fun, and you're set for the night. You might even get a couple new friends out of it.

honestly, everyone I met my freshman year aren't my type of people

Find a weekend job or a woman. Tonight I went eating with my mom & now I'm too tired to do anything else, so I'm sitting around until I go to bed. I'm working tomorrow night, so I'm all set there. Then when I find a new woman I'll have plenty to do in addition to the papers I have to write this semester.

Heh, "went eating with my mom" makes it sound like you have some sort of huge event planned, like some sort of eating competition. 😀

Actually when I read that I missed the "with" and did a double take...when he said find a woman I didn't think he meant family members 😛

Oh yeah, to OP: consider joining a club or an IM sports team

I still say we need a vomit smiley. 😛

There are people like you, but they're doing the same thing as you: Avoiding the more common social gatherings. There's absolutely nothing wrong with not enjoying the party scene. I've never had fun doing such things. I enjoy smaller groups of people, if not one-on-one, and conversation. I'd rather lounge around at a coffee shop or bookstore and talk than dance around like some inebriated monkey at a frat party.

If you're really wanting to meet people, then perhaps the coffeeshop/bookstore/etc. type scene is more for you. You'll generally find people there who also have no interest in the party scene.

Good luck.

just relax man i am in a similar situation in (high school) i don't really have a "group" of friends either, but you are worse than me assuming that you are in a college away from freinds you already have, don't change yourself for a group of people unless they engage in stuff that is morally good,

I moved around a lot so I lost a lot of childhood friends I could've grown up with.
I have a best friend that I met my first day in high school who is like a brother to me, we grew together and shaped each other.
we have the same sense of humor, the way we joke, the way we have fun, shared the same experiences we can go all night talking and laughing about. All the qualities I lack he has, and vice versa. I sincerely feel that we have a perfect friendship and we will grow old together.
Ever since I got to college, I always thought that's what a "friend" was... so everyone I met, I never felt that type of connection. All the people I met two years ago here in college, I can't get along with... it's like I tried to hang out with the wrong type of crowd.

maybe the people you thought you didnt like freshman year have changed and are different now junior year. and im sure more people have showed up that you don't know.

saying you try'd freshman year and then thinking sophomore and junior year are the same isnt too smart.

people are out there, you just havn't found them yet

I'm in the same situation. Not in any social group at highschool, and all my friends are back at college for the school year so my weekends consist of nothing. I'm not really one to meet new people so it's hard. If only I had social skills. Oh well..I guess things might change in college...or not.

I know what you are talking about, and I had a similar experience in College. I never really found a "group" of common friends to hang out with. I had a few roommates that I was good friends with, but most of them were the introverted type (would rather discuss chemistry and computers) and didn't like to go out.

I was able to sort of join a group of people my Senior year when it became clear that my roomies weren't ever going to leave their computers and schoolwork for a break now and then. But it was very difficult to join in - they had an established structure and habits and although I was very good friends with two of those people, I never really felt integrated into their group.

I don't know why, but I have been far far far more fortunate in my graduate school days. I've got a strong group of friends to go out with, and I couldn't be happier. I'm not sure why I had so much more success here than in undergrad.

yes exactly... that's how I feel right now.
I like to go out and do things... and go drink with people when big events happen at nightclubs and meet people but I wish I had a strong group of friends that I connect with.

Be more friendly, you aren't going to find someone that is 100% like you, that would be boring, did you dorm it? I met soooo many people in the dorm and people through them as well. But seriously if you have 1 or 2 people you can hang out with just get in the car at like 11pm and go to different college appartment complexes, you will find a party, just go in grab a beer talk with your friends for a bit then go meet people, probably what we are gonna end up doin tonight unless my boy comes through on this party.

yes i dormed my freshman year

I hung out with my roommate and couple others.

but my roommate was one year ahead of me so he had his own friends.... the other guys i haven't gotten in touch with.

what year are you btw?

Where do you go to school? I find it hard to imagine that you can't find people that you can relate to at a college. I saw that someone suggested service projects, and that's not really a bad idea. I know I've met a lot of people through numerous service projects that I've volunteered for and although I've only ever really hung out or become friends with a small number of the people I've met, it's still a great way to meet people.

If you don't have a job, get one. The potential to meet girls at work is HUGE, especially if you're at a computer lab/restaurant/etc.
