If you continue restricting calories too much you will lose muscle, and for every pound of muscle tissue you lose you will lower your metabolism a percentage. Once you start eating 'normally' again, your lowered metabolism will cause you to rebound and put on weight even faster than before. This is what's called yo-yo dieting and it's quite stressful on the body. Eventually you will have such a buggered up metabolism that you will find it very difficult to lose anything. Kudos for the effort though.

Yeah, I know that is an issue, but thats why I am going to be working with the trainer to try and maintain muscle mass. Also interms of yo-yo rebound ect, I know I have to worry about that in the long run, but I feel like I should cross that bridge later. For me, at my weight I really think the most imporatant thing to do is lose weight. The rest I can deal with later.

I've also read that healthy sustainable weight loss should be no more than 2 pounds per week, but I also remember reading before that it can be more for people who are significantly overweight. but 10 lbs a week, i'm not sure. 410 is a lot (no offense) so maybe 10lbs a week isn't that bad?

I remember when I was losing weight, and when I tell girls my stats, they say "i hate it that you can lose more weight than me" so I tell them. "gain 100 pounds and see if you can lose weight just as fast, i bet you can." haha.

Yeah, I have told the same thing to people about losing weight faster because of starting higher. They have told me not to expect to continue to lose weight this fast. I think 19lbs in the first week was alot, but some was surly water, and last week was 10. The nurse said I could realisiticly expect to lose 10 a week in good weeks for a little while, but that after that it would slow down considerably.

Congratulations on what you've lost so far and good luck with the rest of it!

Once you start exercising, make sure you stick with it. Very few people are able to keep weight that they've lost off, but the people who are able to do it are the ones who stick with an exercise plan.

Keep us updated

Dude. Of course you lost all that weight. You're fricken' 400+ lbs. Your body itself consumes 4800+ calories a day to keep you alive.

Good job keep it up.

the key to lossing weight is simple. less food, more exercise. when was the last time you saw a fat marine graduating boot camp? When i graduated Air Force basic i had lost 3 inches in my waist but gained 8 pounds.

Mad respect to you bro. I dropped from 270 to 210, now I gotta work twice as hard to drop even more. With that diet you are going to shed the fat like dogs shed fur in the summer.

Good Job! The fat gene runs rampant in my family also :( I lost 54 lbs in 4 months after I found out I have type 2 diabetes. I had to change my diet drastically. My diet basically is a diabetics version of the Southbeach diet. Once I cut out sugar and carbs the weight started to fall off.

Wow. That's unhealthy and stupid.

You may be losing weight fast but unless you keep it up forever you're just going to gain it back quickly.

Cut back on meals and do some exercise. It's a slow boring process but it's the only thing that will work.

Being thin requires a total lifestyle change.

I feel sorry for the OP. That diet is going to throw his body into starvation mode (since he's basically starving himself... 4 packets + 4 dairy servings is like 800 calories a day, I expend more than that just sitting on my ass all day... SERIOUSLY). As soon as he goes off the diet he's going to rebound like a fvcking NBA star. Proper nutrition plus daily exercise is always the best way to lose weight. It may take longer, but you'll be healthier for it and your body will thank you later. Not to mention you'll look better too.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get so fat in the first place?

I am not totally sure, I think it had something to do with the years and years of overeating... ;)

As I have said, I have tried diets that way and havn't been able to get myself to stick to them, it was this or gastric bypass, and this seemed to be the healthier choice.

As for rebounding in weight, I would ask you to review the "D and E Programs" on sustaining weight.

Link

Of course in the long run this isn't how I plan to lose all the weight I need to lose. The plan is to start losing weight this way and help myself build momentum before moving through the programs until I have reached a good goal weight, and a maintance program to sustain it.

As for feeling sorry for me -- yeah, it makes sense, you should feel sorry for me... I think the best way to make things better would be to send me $20. I will accept paypal cc, but I really would prefer non cc.

Not bad man

Post pics asyou continue to lose the weight

You might not lose 10-20 pounds every week and some weeks you might only lose a pound. THIS IS NORMAL. Don't give up!

Good Luck!

I don't feel sorry for you in the way I think you interpreted it. It sucks that you have a weight problem, but I'm mostly afraid that you'll rebound and that's even worse, especially on a psychological level. I'm a Kinesiology Undergrad at Washington State University so THIS sort of thing is exactly my field of study (though I tend to focus on youth-centric fitness issues). The problem with severe calorie cutting is that your body's metabolism plummets and after you lose weight, when you start eating more, suddenly you have way more calories than your body needs and it all gets stored as fat again. In addition, limiting your calories to such extreme levels could result in impaired immune function and generally poor health, in which case I'd highly recommend you see a doctor. But, it seems like you're doing well and making progress, and I really hope you end up reaching your goals. I just think it's important for people to understand some of the dangers that such extreme measures can bring with them. Best of luck to you.

I appreciate your thought man, I really do. I am seeing a doctor, this diet requires weekly bp, ekg, blood tests, weigh ins, doctors visit, and also includes anh excersize component to help prevent the fall of in basle (sp) metobolic function. It isn't just a starvation diet, that is the begining of a much longer and more involved program. Max of 4 months out of what will take at least 2 years, and then a lifetime.

Well I just got back from my weekly weigh in/doctors apt, not a good week, only lost 3 lbs. Doctor says it is to be expected after two weeks of dramatic loss and that I shouldn't be discouraged as it is most likely water rebound. Still sucks a donkey dong that after a week without food I only lost 3lbs...

Did start at the gym Thursday though. Thursday lifted with trainer, Friday swam...
