Your friends and family will think you're weird when you try serving them Thanksgiving turkey on a flat panel display.

Just pick out some nice china. A computer will be obsolete 10 minutes after you unpack it and two years from now you'll just sell it and buy a new one anyway. Fine china will last for many years.

They already have china. I have kicked in for many a wedding gift and I'd rather give people things they really want/need and not just what I think they should want.

I'm not into nickknac type things,they contribute clutter and catch dust, a new TV or stereo setup would mean more to both of us than china would.

I would think that most people will be sensible in this situation and simply give money as a gift.

If your really into that, what you can do is setup your own registry site. It would be a simple web-store type interface where you could enter the items you want people to purchase for you, then people would add them to their cart, and "order" them from your site. In reallity they're money could go to your paypal account or whatever, and then at the end you use all the money to buy those things. Yes its kind of cheating in terms of what a real registry does, but this works to get the stuff you want!

Only in a perfect world could this happen. Normal people get confused easily when purchasing computer stuff, plus it would never fly with everyone else and your SO.
