The photographers have finally given us a preview of how our wedding shots will look in the Final Album. We picked 500 shots from the ~7000 originals, and these are the ones that have already been re-touched and ready for print. (Its only about 35)

If you are interested in what a Hindu wedding looks like, take a look.

Wedding Pics

Pics taken May 28th of this year at our wedding/reception near my wife's hometown of Livonia, MI

Photography buffs, feel free to post your thoughts or recommendations (if any) that I can give to the photographer before they finalize and print.

If anyone else has any questions or curious about the Indian wedding tradition, feel free to reply or PM I would be happy to enlighten you. It was a great weekend and talking about it makes it like I am living it again :)

Ick undhiya! Non-veg FTW!!!

Chicken tikka masala and open bar made it a very good night for all!

I think the veggies had some variation of chicken tikka masala where they subbed in paneer... GROSS

I'm half indian, and my uncle was re-married not too long ago.. what is the meaning of the cutting of his shirt and then massaging him with baby oil and stinky tumeric paste the morning of the wedding? Great comedy.. but why?

This is called the pithi. We did mine a week before at our house. Yes, it is disgusting. I am not FULLY aware of the meaning of this ritual, but apparently it has something to do with cleansing and brightening the skin? Dunno, I prefer a hot shower :)

looks like a fun time. I remember going to weddings when I was in india. I was only a kid back then, but i remember it being a lot of fun. They were multiple day affairs and the food was so good! I think thats the only thing that bothers me about this multiracial relationship im in. I feel like Im gonna lose some of the culture. But there are pros and cons to everything...

btw, who's the girl in the first pic? She's pretty hot (no offense if she is ur sister or something)

You are right on the money... LOL it is my younger sister... No offense taken.

All in all the event was two days.. One night for the garba, wedding ceremony the next morning and reception that night. I live in NJ and she is from MI, so logistically we had to do it this way to accommodate all of the guests coming from out of town.

As for the multi racial relationship, true, it might cost you some of your culture, but think about how much you will gain from a different culture which you would otherwise never know about. For every con, there is a pro :)

Any specific picture you are referring to? The photographer changed the color in some of the pictures to show a different look in case we wanted some pictures without so much color...

just re-read what you wrote, these are re-touched already? see if you like this one better
a little color rebalance and unsharp mask.

Wow I totally see what you mean when I compare them side by side. By retouched, I meant he added some effects (like the b&w, color dampened, etc).

I will definitely bring this to their attention though, thanks!

hi there - a couple of Qs after looking at your wedding pics. what is the significance of you (the groom ) being carried by other men (pic #8290).

No real significance... this was in the morning before the wedding ceremony, where my side gets to the wedding hall and "presents" me to my wife's family. It is basically dancing and making noise to let them know I have arrived. My friends are just a little crazy and got into it and the two big guys lifted me up...

secondly, a friend of mine had attended an indian wedding several years ago (apparently the couple had 2 weddings--first a traditional indian wedding, then a regular american one). my friend mentioned that the groom had a beard during the indian wedding (something about it being a custom), then for the american wedding, he had shaved it off (apparently, the groom who normally shaves his facial hair had let it grow for the indian wedding)--was is the significance for having a beard?

I have never heard of this in the Hindu Gujurati culture. Maybe he is punjabi and it holds some significance, but i am not sure.

Some pretty good images. IMG_8818 is an awesome family portrait, too bad the WB isn't right.

Also, when you get the images, request the RAW files as well in case you want to process any of them yourself.

Some of the other family shots came out way better, I dont know why he used that one to sample with... Anyway, 8818 is HER family lol.. 8813 is my side, which looks better IMO :)

Anyway, I've got all ~7k pictures in original format on my laptop :) Most photographers don't give these out, but this one is a friend so he obliged after some nudging... I look forward to photochopping them in my spare time lol
