Is there a way to turn off the announcements every time someone joins or leaves a meeting?

Arrgh,
In a meeting with almost 300 people and they have the notification on.

Thanks

You have to have the host role in the meeting. The host can go to the PARTICIPANT menu and then uncheck "entry and exit tones" Also if you have the WebEx plugin in outlook. The host can go to "Meeting Options" and turn it off before the meeting begins.

We once had a BT conference bridge set up to announce to all company managers the death of our CFO. We had invited over 200 folks to the call. The host of the call was in London but was an administrative assistant that just dialed the phone in and left the room. So here we are in the US and our CEO is trying to make the announcement and every time he spoke he would hear another beep interrupting him. Since they did not tell people what the call was about people felt free to join late as they typically would. I never saw someone hate technology so much.

I sent them an email, they said they practiced but it didn't work. 🙄
Can you tell who the host is? You should be able to do a private chat in webex to the host. You can tell the host to do it. They should be able to anytime during the meeting

The instructions in Viper's link say it can't be done during the meeting.

Couple of Webex tips

Mute on entry = Mutes the microphones of all attendees when they enter the meeting. However, it takes a split second for Webex to mute the person so you may still hear noise as a person enters.

Mute on entry does not prevent someone from unmuting themselves.

Mute on entry also does not mute people that are already in the meeting. You can do a mute all if you are the host.

You can turn off the ability for anyone to share content.

You can also lock a meeting to prevent others from entering after the meeting has started.

You can also expel people from the meeting. (someone that puts the call on hold and you hear their onhold music)

The host has all the above powers. You should always assign someone the host role to manage a meeting. When you schedule a meeting you can assign an alternate host. Also the person scheduling the meeting gets a special host code. The host code can be used by another attendee to take the host role over during a meeting.

No it can be done by the host at anytime.

The confusion there is that there are different types of Webex meetings.

There are regular Webex meetings, Webex Event Center meetings, and Webex Training Center Meetings. It says you cannot when using Events or Training. I always make it a habit to turn off entry and exit tones when scheduling an Event Center meeting.

You typically use event center for large meetings. Since you said you had 300 people you may be in an Event Center meeting. If you look at your menu bar there may be an EVENT menu instead of a MEETING menu.

the real answer is get rid of webex
Webex works well. Almost all the problems we experience are caused by the user. People just don't take the time to learn how to use the platform.

They join from their computer with computer audio and then manually dial in on a phone thus having two audio connections causing feedback loops and echoes.

They call in on a cell phone with very poor reception and then blame Webex. It won't work if you have less than 2 bars.

People join from their laptops on wireless and again have the weakest wireless connection. They think they can take the call from their back yard, miles away from their router and still have a good experience.

They use the worst wireless crap headsets with the battery about to go out.

They try taking the call from their car with the windows rolled down.

I could go on and on. My tech team has no issues with Webex at all. Or we know when the issue is of our own making.

Apparently nobody at my company knows how to use WebEx, though we have been using it for years. People always need to be told to mute their microphones. 🙄

I think no matter what platform you use it comes down to your users being trained. No platform is foolproof.

I think we could actually go back to phone only bridges and people would be happy. We got Webex to collaborate and share content.
