Webcam software: Time-lapsed & Security functions needed

I don't need to do ftp uploads, just do these two functions well to video files. Love my 3COM HomeConnect camera, but the software it comes with is almost useless (either because of lack of features or it's so buggy).

Any suggestions?

Thanks! 😀

So you want to use your webcam for local time-lapsed security surveillance? There's an easier way to go about this; purchase equipment designed specifically for the task. For $300-$700 you can buy a simple B/W, one to four camera wireless system, complete with a time-lapse capable VCR and monitor. If this is for a business, write it off when doing your taxes.

Actually, that not what I want to do.

I want to use the motion sensing part (aka, what some poeple call a 'security' function) to capture pictures of native animals. The time lapsed software (meaning, a frame a second for several hours all written to a video file) so I can study slow moving ogjects, like plants and weather patterns.

Help anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps I'm not being clear: I looking for software recomendations for a webcam. I don't need a fancy camera, I already have one good enough for my purposes.

Thanks.

Timothy,

I understand what you are looking for. I am looking for the same sort of thing to do the same type of stuff. Please let me know if you find out anything more about time lapse w/ a web-type camera.

I found something that answers some of my requirements.

It's called SmartSentry and the reporting piece is called SentryReport. Not exactly what I was looking for in the motion detection part, but real close. Plus, it's free!

Look for it at Hotfiles

What a search! 😀 I finally found the other piece to my puzzle. It's a program called ConquerCam. Includes a simple http server and it's only $10!

Some of the features found in ConquerCam include:
automatically upload images every x second, minute, hour or day
put an unlimited number of captions on generated image
add overlay image on captured image
apply various overlay effects as found in e.g. Adobe PhotoShop.
maintain list of multiple FTP sites
start on Windows boot
minimize into tray bar for minimal screen usage
play notification sound to warn for upcoming grabs and in actual grab second
connect through proxy servers
connect using Passive (PASV) transfer Mode
save local copies of your uploaded images
see thumbnail of image being uploaded
automatic dialup when publishing images from a modem or any non permanent Internet connection.
use rolling names when saving images, e.g. to provide user with "latest five images"
use timestamp information as filenames to distinguish different versions of your grabs
extensive help file included in package
