1) History
I talk with DeviousTrap on AIM from time to time. This began when I posted on AT once or twice regarding webhosting and he helped me, then I noticed he gave advice in lots of webhosting threads. Recently I decided to start a little local business of my own, and again, he gave tons of advice. He told me about an online webhosting service he's starting and immediatly I know it's going to have someone reliable running it that already does this for AT(read below), he isn't the kind of person to cheat someone out of what they want.

He manages shared servers for people on AT already, which had practically no support but this web hosting business he's doing has a support team monitoring for support 24/7.

2) More Information
A) Server Specs
Pentium 4 3.0GHz with Hyperthreading, dual hard drives, and 1GB RAM. There are also incremental backups.

B) Data Center
The server is located at the Equinix data center, you can visit their website at www.equinix.com

A tour is available here.

3) Hosting Plans
Him and I talk a lot so I'm hoping you guys don't get the feeling that I'm just advertising his business, but in reality he offers quality services at nice prices. Here are his rates taken directly from his website www.telnap.com after clicking on Special Offers:

Update: I was talking with DeviousTrap and he said the response was great! This plan will now be going on untill the 20th, I'd reccomend grabbing one of these accounts now since it can come in use for many different things. Also, further below is a post by MBony that explains how to get a free .info domain, definetly something worth trying out. If you think about it, you can get a year's domain and a year's hosting for just $5.95 :D

interesting...

I'm a hosting n00b, but opened my mouth and volunteered to build a site for my Home Owners Association (heck, how hard can it be to build a forum and a 'news-letter'). Anyway I'll be sure to check this out and likely follow the thread.

Yeah, a forum isn't very hard because one of the features included is known as "Fantastico." This is a script that will setup things FOR YOU like a forum

As for a newsletter, I'm not sure myself, but maybe someone could help you out

Ha... I think you just miss the point. Those prices are not per year... Those prices are PER MONTH.
You better fix that in your post and even more important in topic.

I think if you click the "special offers" link it leads to the $5.95/year plan

do you have to transfer your domain over to them or will it work if your domain is run by another site?

From Telnap's FAQs:

Do I need to transfer my domain to you?

At this time we don't even accept domain registrations, so no you don't need to. Our order form says transfer, but that is simply a limitation of the system. In the end of the order process you will be given the nameservers to point your domain to.

I think this is pretty cool. I've always wanted to have web hosting and my own domain. I've been using my university webspace but it would be nice to have my own. This seems to be a good deal for peeps like me that always wanted to start a little crappy personal website but doesn't feel like spending $10 a month. Thanks AgaBooga.

I'm one of those people on a shared AT server, and I'd also very highly recommend DeviousTrap! He really knows what he's doing, and is almost always available when help is needed. These are some very good deals! :D

Yes that will work just fine.

After you sign up for a web hosting account, you should receive two DNS name servers. Login to your domain registrar's web site (GoDaddy, NameCheap, etc.) change your DNS name servers, wait 48 hours for propogation then you're ready to roll.

I have had bad experience with other webhosting that others recommend here. But the guy who run this one sounds reliable...so I might give it a try with this deal.

I try to email him on the site, but I don't see his address. I dont' even have a domain now, I might register one in a few months after I decide the name. Can I order the package now and not use it for at least a few months I wonder?

Yep Fantastico is awesome :)

Makes installing scripts such as forums, pichosting, weblog, CMS, etc. super easy. It takes about 30 seconds and two clicks of the mouse.

I appreciate the recommendation AgaBooga

Due to the large fee's that it would cost to process credit cards, we can only accept paypal on these packages. If you want to pay via credit card we can only offer you the standard plan.

To anyone who wants to contact me directly, admin@telnap.com would be the best method of contact.
