Might want to look into IE filters. I don't exactly know what they can do or how they do it because I don't give a flying ****** about IE, but apparently they've solved people's PNG issues in the past, particularly PNG alpha transparency for IE6.

And I'm not a big fan of the color gradient you set up. Maybe you can do a dark-light-dark gradient, so it looks like the side edges are worn
And the bottons up top dont stand out enough. At first glance I though it was a title to the page itself.
