Csg, are you reporting on the US corruption too in this situation? Or just the straight-up partisan angle as usual?

I think that the US portion of the corruption would not have existed without the original weaseling that existed at the UN.
Had the UN fulfilled thier responsiblities, there would have been nothing from anybody.
Also, it may not have allowed Saddam to so easily outlasted the actual embargo which increased his contempt of the santions and resolutions.

And the fact that he no longer had WMD's but Iraq was still under sanctions and resolutions had nothing to do with his contempt fo them?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Nearly $9 billion of money spent on Iraqi reconstruction is unaccounted for because of inefficiencies and bad management, according to a watchdog report published Sunday.
An inspector general's report said the U.S.-led administration that ran Iraq until June 2004 is unable to account for the funds.
"Severe inefficiencies and poor management" by the Coalition Provisional Authority has left auditors with no guarantee the money was properly used," the report said.

No one is stating that the funds were stolen of siphoned off. Just that they can not account for where they went. Typical goverment handling of a chunk of money without proper oversight.

I agree, there needs to be accountability for the money we are spending to rebuild Iraq, however this thread is about the oil-for-fools scam as a UN program. There is another thread about the missing reconstruction monies - infact I believe there was one a couple months ago too. Just because I post about the UN fiasco does not mean I do not care about the reconstruction money or am not concerned about it so please do not try to come in here and try the "but the US is bad" "duhversion" - you are better than that....or so I thought...

It's not a "duhversion" Cad, it's a serious credibility issue. How can you feign so much indignation with the UN when we're guilty of the same thing, if not worse. It's only a "duhversion" in your mind because you're so anxious to "get" the UN -- it's practically a full-time job with the conservative right these days. Hell, just glance @ one of Jerome's threads around here.Originally posted by: CADsortaGUY

Let those without sin cast the first stone. Isn't that was Jeebus said?![]()
Right, you expect us to discuss the UN scandal in a complete vaccuum of facts and totally out of context? How typical. I wonder why you'd want to frame the topic in that way? Hmmm?Originally posted by: CADsortaGUY
I'm not feigning "indignation" DM. There are other threads on the issue you brought up and they are only similar due to them being about Iraq and money. The Oil-for-fools scam and the UN's ineptness are being discussed here so please take your feigned outrage "duhversion" elsewhere.
Again, you are incorrect to ASSume I don't care about the unaccounted for tax-payer money.

Investigators have discovered overseas bank accounts belonging to disgraced U.N. oil-for-food program head Benon Sevan that could unlock the mystery over whether he profited from dirty deals with Saddam Hussein, The Post has learned. Sources close to the numerous probes of the giant U.N. scandal revealed that investigators have recently discovered that Sevan, who lives in New York, has accounts in Switzerland, Turkey and Cyprus ? countries with notoriously tight bank secrecy laws.
Massive behind-the-scenes efforts are under way by investigative agencies to gain access to the records, according to officials with two separate agencies involved in the U.N. probe.
