I believe that as long as others don't force it upon on me, it is fine. but the majority seem to alway shove thing down everyone else's throat because of few who died without seatbelt. who care, it's their life not yours. and they wouldnt surivive anyway because of the head on collision. The cops pull people over occasionally for not wearing seatbelt this imo is silly. I have gotten into a few wrecks, no seatbelt and no harm whatsoever thought the car is seriously trashed lol. If you can't stop everyone from smoking and drinking i dont' see how you can all to wear seatbelt because of hippos. I have been reminded by some nosy folk driving along the road pull his seatbelt out just to show how proud he is wearing one and how safe he feel. This was like 10 years ago, till this day I am still laughing my heads off. Remember, a good driver is one who is cautious, not one who is reckless with a seatbelt because he think he cannot be killed regardless even if say direct hit head on collision at 60 mph. Defensive driving is key to safety. Wearing a seatbelt should not make you feel much safer then not wearing one, again the key is to have fast reaction and avoid it at all cost. Even if you have to go off road or slide over to the next lane because some dumbo had just jammed his break on you. Also it just look impressive to the majority, look ma no seatbelt cool right? :D you bet I am.

Words can't even begin to describe how much of an uneducated (read: IDIOTIC) view you have on this topic.

i wholeheartedly agree

seatbelts save lives. Air bags, however, i'm not in favor of.

When I drive, EVERYONE wears a seatbelt! Why? Because people flying around in a collision can cause MY death as well! If I drive, and some 80kg moron sit behind me without a belt, and we have a head-on collision, that idiot is going to come crashing down on my back with a force of 10 gees. He would die, and I would be severly injured at least.

When I drive, everyone buckles up. If they don't, the car doesn't move. Sure, I'm not forcing anyone to buckle up, they have the right not to wear it (well, they don't, since it's required by the law). But I also have the right not to drive if my passengers are not buckled up.

Bah. I should be alowed to wear a seatbelt if I want to, and not if I don't! Here in NJ, it is not only illegal to not wear a seatbelt, it is a primary offence. That means that the cops can PULL YOU OVER if they don't think you are wearing one!

Hey, Why even have brakes? I just steer around trouble and downshift to slowdown

Guess you have never seen a closed head trauma with friends and family around the bed waiting to see if your brain dead so you can donate your organs. Second thought make sure donor card is filled out, so somebody else can benefit.

While you may have not been injured by your stupidity yet when you are thrown through the windscreen and it doesn't kill you as you lay in the hospital paralized from the neck down I hope a lot of people will kindly tell you that a seatbelt would have prevented it. I would rather be safe then dead or crippled. I am a very careful driver but when the asshole in the Cadillac cut me off the seatbelt is what kept me from being seriously injured.

It occurs to me that people who died because they didn't wear their seatbelts don't have an opportunity to post rebuttals.

But I kind of admire your stream-of-consciousness style where you move from one incoherent thought to another.

Your an idiot. A lucky idiot, but an idiot none the less.

it's their life not yours
While it may be 'there life', it's my taxes. The reason mandatory seatbelt/helmet laws exist is due to the economic cost of treating injured people who do not have insurance. Those people wind up being cared for by the state. I, due to mandatory payroll deductions, provide the funding to the state to do this.

My car doesn't go into gear until everybody has their seatbelt on. If the offending passenger does not put it on after being asked to, I tell them to get out of the car. It's my car, my ticket, my insurance, my lawsuit if he's hurt because I didn't make him put on the belt.

Last Saturday morning 3 teenage girls were killed in an accident in a town called Corona, CA. The driver was wearing the seatbelt improperly and the other two weren't wearing them. Maybe the belts wouldn't have saved their lives, but we'll never know.

NJ here too. That seatbelt is in effect but is hardly enforced. More like if they pull you over for some other traffic violation and notice you're not wearing one, they will slap on an additional offense.

Putting on my seatbelt when I get in the car is a force of habit for me now. I don't necessarily feel safer having it on, but it's just one of those habits that's good to have.:)

I believe your previous accidents caused you severe brain damage, leaving you a functional moron. Aside from saving your life and the lives of your passengers, under some conditions, they may help you maintain better control of your car after an impact. Your misinformed, selfish attitude creates an added danger to others on the highway who could be innocent victims of your stupidity. :|

Save the hippos. :)

People who believe in not wearing seatbelts shouldn't . . . it tends to reinforce the "survival of the fittest" notion and not passing their defective genes on to future offspring.

However, people who are injured in accidents who are not wearing seatbelts should also not get insurance money or government assistance to pay their hospital or funeral bills.

Seat belts clearly save lives and serious injury. Your argument is so weak as to be dismissed (period)

Isn't the seatbelt law enforced in Florida? I know it is a big deal (and expensive if you are stopped without wearing one) in CA and HI.

As mentioned previously....so long as you don't make other people pay for your mistakes (through increased taxes, health care costs, etc.), seat belts SHOULD BE OPTIONAL.

Thats just what they want you to believe. Selt belt laws are just one of many intrusive laws that the government never should have passed. I wear my seltbelt every time I drive, but I DONT support the use of our justice system to try and make people wear them (at least not for adults, kids are another story).

They are even stepping up the amount of enforcement on the law. Of course this is the same state that won't outlaw people riding in the back of pickup trucks without restraint.

Defensive driving, wth! That attitude also creates accidents. You can be as cautious, law abiding as you want but if you get an a$$hole on the road or get involved with an unpredictable crash you're as good as paralysed/dead. I hope your mother is proud when she's identifying your body at the morgue, with the last tear in her eye's, saying "At least he looked cool with no seatbelt"

What a moron!
